My perspective is that Christ didn’t always say everything He could have said. Often times He didn’t confirm or deny many things, thus leaving it open to interpretation. As far as the Bible goes, I’m pretty strict about what it literally says or doesn’t say. I am not willing to imply eternal torment for the rich man and Lazarus story.
I mean, we can cross examine this a bit. Let’s see John 20:31.
John 20:31
31But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing
you may have life in His name.
Look, Jesus didn’t say eternal life in John 20:31. Does that mean Jesus changed His mind about the offer of eternal life through belief in His name? No, because we know from many verses eternal life is through faith in Christ.
In like manner, we know Jesus said to fear Him who can destroy soul and body in hell (Matthew 10:28) and that those who don’t believe in Him will perish (John 3:16.)
Do Matt 10:28 and John 3:16 apply to the rich man too? I believe yes.
