Aaaaaah. There is much grinding of axes here.Do you think that a worship team is even needed?
I'm out. If you want to argue that we should not have organized singing groups in church, I don't want to have any part of that debate.

Not looking to enter a contentious argument or debate - there is far to much of that on this site and frankly it is not my style which is why I seldom post except in the "funny" thread. I was/am looking for a civil discussion. If you don't want to join that's ok by me.Aaaaaah. There is much grinding of axes here.

Your experience was unfortunate, but I like your suggestion. When we were about thirteen, our Sunday School class went caroling. It wasn't my first trip with them, but it was my last. My thirteen year old musician cousin (piano master and superb vocalist), while we were singing "Away in a Manger", turned to me and put her finger over her lips, and said "you're ruining the melody!" So much for "make a joyful noise". It was a harsh, but valuable lesson. I put a lid on my bucket, and learned to enjoy listening to music.
If you have someone who believes he can sing, but can't, hand him a microphone, and record him singing his favorite song. Sit with him in the sanctuary and play his song for him. Ask him what he thinks.
Clothing is most important: Christ's robes of righteousness .How does one audition for a life lived in reverence to the Lord?
I found this on a local churches web site. What are your thoughts?
Worship is a life of reverence for and fear of the Lord. It may or may not include musical instruments and singing.
Many of the old-guard or many who make their living off of "traditional" (but not Biblical) church function will say "Well, worship is understood to be singing so don't make a big deal about it." These are the same people whom God has passed by. This is not a statement about their salvation but one of grace and empowerment. God is not building with them any more. They may have large congregations (you know, just like Tony Robbins) but it is not because of the Lord.
That tabernacle will become the Millennial temple. See Ezekiel. But the true tabernacle is presently in Heaven. Is was the Father that said "I will rebuild the tabernacle of David." While men may be used in this it is GOD that does it.
Well, here's my 2 cents.
WHY would I want people on stage to lead worship that has no spiritual qualifications?
WHY would I want people who sound perfect to lead worship that are nothing near perfect with a commitment to Christ?
One of the reasons worship is hindered is because the ones leading don't really know how to worship God. They've become too focused on the likes of Hillsong & other "professional" worship groups that have a spirit leading them to sing about themselves & who they claim to be.
I would rather have some shrills & off key singers that would let the Holy Spirit lead them than perfectionists onstage competing for BMOC!
There's a difference between anointed & exciting, & I'll take anointed any day. I hope you do too.
Well, I'm done.... for now.![]()

While I agree with you about "worship leaders" elc (which is not according to the NT) if you read the Psalms, praise and worship go together. The Father those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. worship not praise.

So why are churches not singing the Psalms (which were all sung and set to musical instruments)? Many of the Psalms have already been set to music, but a lot of churches have abandoned "psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs" and started singing repetitive words which have little or no biblical content. For example "Amazing Grace" has been replaced by "This is Amazing Grace" and here are the lyrics (partially):
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness?
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger? [So much stronger than what?]
The King of glory, the King above all kings
Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder?
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder?
The King of glory, the King above all kings
This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross...
Let's focus on that last line. Did Christ "bear MY cross" or did He bear His own cross? And did he command us to bear our "crosses" or did he say He would bear them? So even the theology is all twisted. Now compare this to the actual hymn "Amazing Grace".
