I really dig on the ebonics translation of the Bible, and like to read it in my crib, and have Bible studies with my homies, and sistas, sipping on gin and juice, learning about the man upstairs, while downstairs, as I stares at the word of God meditating on it, and kicking it with my peeps, lol.
I like the KJV, and I like the way it is written.
Yeah, I heard they're going to translate the KJV into Biblical Hebrew and Greek soonI voted for KING JIMMY. Glad to see its winning
I think this is proof that the KJV is a divinely inspired translation? Why else would it win this vote, HUH? HUH?!? Cant explain that away can you? GOTCHA!
Im just joking. But seriously KJV!
I'm kind of torn, I grew up with the NIV, but have used the NLT for ages - God has used it in a big way in my life. I am however at the point where I think I like the idea of a more literal translation, so I'm spending time with the ESV. I may end up switching! All the more reason to settle on one translation. After having done your due diligence.
I have done my due diligence and settled on the King James Bible a long time ago.
last year, I did a side by side reading of the NIV and the new KJV, and there are some differences ,
so, you might think of doing a side by side. I found it very interesting .
Just curious, how do you decide which one to go with?
oh, I have been reading the NKJV for many years, and I also look at a lot of direct translations , so I do not depend on the NKJV alone .
and, I know the KJV only folks are going to punch me for this, I have nothing against the KJV, I just prefer to read modern English.
Are you wanting to turn this thread into a KJV-only debate? What I mean is, when you come to a passage and the different versions vary, how do you decide which is right? Thanks.
Remember, the NKJV was written more of a word for word. Where the NIV was written in a way to try to bring the old language to the new, in an expressive way/ Like the NLT. But yes, it is good to try to look at a few versions every now and then. Especially in problem passages, last year, I did a side by side reading of the NIV and the new KJV, and there are some differences ,

Look to the greek or Hebrew. And if that does not help. Look to see what the rest of the bible says, Does it contradict any particular version, if so, we can rule that out. What I mean is, when you come to a passage and the different versions vary, how do you decide which is right? Thanks.
Hit the nail on the head..Are you wanting to turn this thread into a KJV-only debate?

Well of course they do. Thats why we should not take any english bible as mistake free. Or any verse outside of its context. Otherwise, I could make the bible say whatever I wanted it too.And when the Greek gives you four definitions, how do you decide which is best? And btw, the majority of versions contradict each other is some way.

Again, Scripture interprets itself
And context.
The greek may give a few possible defenition, but context would help us determine which one.
