Some believe that only defiled women (especially such as prostitutes) would
uncover their hair. Like an act of rebellion, and/or showing lack of respect.
Incidentally, I was catching up on my Hebrew study updates, and learned of the temple's cleansing ritual that required shaving the hair before entering into a mikveh (ritual bath) and applying the blood on the right ear, thumb, and toe. And I do wonder if there is any relevance to that custom concerning the shaving of the hair here.
