Even though Jesus was fully God, He was also FULLY MAN. I think Satan was trying to expose that weakness of the flesh in Jesus and cause Him to perhaps sin because if he was successful, then Jesus' plan of Salvation would be thwarted and thereby deemed unworthy by the Father, thus leaving me you and everyone else without a sacrifice and to die in our sins.

Satan was trying to prevent Jesus from making a perfect, sinless sacrifice and take us all to hell with him.

But Jesus triumphed over Satan and the grave! Hallelujah!

Of course Jesus used Satan in the end to show us that we too can overcome temptation like He did.

That sounds like the Orthodox perspective. Seemingly, Satan was trying to tempt Jesus-the-man ("the guy from Galilee") away from the Holy Spirit of God in heaven, Incarnating into Jesus. Jesus-the-man submitted his will, into unity without conflict, to the Divine Will of God in heaven, enabling a "hypostatic union" (for want of worthier words).

Jesus Christ (as 100% God/100% man) was fully capable of sinning but he never gave into temptation. Thus, he became the only human to never sin but he was also God - the perfect blood sacrifice to appease God's wrath at sin, death and the devil.

Do you want the most direct answer to that question? WARNING!!! DO NOT ASK FOR SOMETHING LEST YOU ARE ABLE TO RECEIVE IT!!!

Satan viewed Jesus just as people who preach overcoming sin in this life to be impossible view God's true elect. They will tempt us and test us in their unbelief.

They do not get that if you sin you cannot be in Christ for Christ has no sin in him.

And Satan thought Jesus could not possibly be any more perfect than he.

Satan waited until the 40th day in the wilderness to tempt Jesus. He came when Jesus was hungry and physically weak... the same way he comes to temp us...when we are at a weak point. IF he could get the Man, Jesus, to submit to him, then Jesus would no longer have the ability to shed His blood as payment for our sins (Satan knew of this plan BTW). His blood would no longer be the PURE SACRIFICE necessary for the payment. If there were to be no payment, then not one human could EVER spend eternity with the Father.
So that's why.

There is much insight given through Matthew 4:1-11

We should remember this if ever we find ourselves in the wilderness of life and temptation comes our way...

i can honestly say i had a very dark time before the Light came upon me, God be thanked that He is more Powerful and Gracious to the undeserving wretch showing Kindness and Mercy.

i had not fasted Forty days and consider that the Messiah's flesh was at its weakness that Shows the Power of God is above all temptation of satan...

Remember how he tried tempting using the Word of God, take heed my friends!

Deny self and let it all Be for Heavenly Father and Yahshua the Messiah's Glory.

Proverbs 30

give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.'

Reminds me of :

Matthew 6

Give us this day our daily bread.

By the way, it wouldn't be a sin for God to worship Satan.

It would have been a sin because then he would have broken God's Law and not been able to be a sinless sacrifice.
Luke 4:8 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'

Deuteronomy 13:4 Worship the LORD your God, fear him, obey his commands, listen to what he says, serve him, and be loyal to him.
Satan does want worship or he would not have ask Jesus for it. like in the book of revelation he deceives people to get their worship from God.

Isaiah 14:12-15 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.

The real question here is, Why did Christ come to the world? Why did he have to dye? Why couldnt he just forgive us in heaven? one should get a grasp of mosiac law to understand this and then you will realize why Satan was allowed to tempt Christ.

Why would Satan knowing this person he's tempting might be God, ask Jesus to do an act of worship to him knowing that God can't worship anyone and that its a pointless thing for him to ask.

Its like Satan asking Jesus - "If you are God Jesus then lie", even though Satan knows that God cannot Lie, so its a pointless question to ask. (Numbers 23:19) “..God is not a man, that He should lie.."

The temptations Satan was tempting Jesus with would only make sense in him asking them to him if, Jesus is not God, otherwise the temptations aren't temptations. And we all know Satan is stupid, he's a master deceiver so there's a reason for those questions.

Also it cannot be explained by saying that Jesus was human etc, because then your basically saying that God can Sin! When the Bible makes clear that God cannot sin!

So again if Satan knew that God is incapable of sining, then why would he try and tempt him? Is it because Jesus isn't God?

What are your thoughts?

(Matthew 4:8-9) "..Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, 9 and he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.”

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak? I think Jesus' spirit was God, but his flesh was flesh. It's hard for me to say if his body was any different from ours before the resurrection. But we do know that it suffered like we suffered and Jesus experienced temptation like we experience.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet he did not sin.

Christ is the word of God, the image of God, and the only-begotten son of God. Satan, the Adversary, tempted him because it was his job, but Christ overcame the temptation simply by using the word of God which is the sword of the spirit.

"Therefore take up the panoply of God that you may be enabled to withstand in the wicked day, and having effected all, to stand. Stand, then, girded about your loins with truth, with the cuirass of righteousness put on, and your feet sandaled with the readiness of the evangel of peace; with all taking up the large shield of faith, by which you will be able to extinguish all the fiery arrows of the wicked one. And receive the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is a declaration of God." (Ephesians 6:13-17)
