Yes this is a reasonable question in a weapons race. When one has many offensive weapons, the other side needs more defensive weapons.

So in my opinion the next best solution is just to secure the school so the shooter can't make it on to the property in the first place
No one gets into the building without an ID and walking through a metal detector
Emergency exit doors that only open from the inside etc
in sweden its mandatory for every citzen to go through firearms training,if 2 are in a car the must be at least 1 pistol between them,its the law.there is almost no crimemaybe its what they are teaching in school?

The US has 'right to bear arms' embedded in their consitution while other countries dont have this particular thing, so having a gun and shooting it must be super important to them.

Sweden is one of the most secular countries in the world and has astronomically lower violence than we do here in America, maybe there's a correlation between secularism and lower violence but I guess that's another topic
I don't think America is the only country with liberal gun laws but we seem to have a unique problem with gun violence
I honestly don't know the solution but, as you mentioned, I think people should actually have to be trained to use a firearm safely before being allowed to carry one. Because handing just any Yahoo a gun with no training is a liability

From what I understand the incidents in purple are incidents that are not necessarily school related, and just happened on school grounds. From a murderer's perspective, school is a pretty convenient place to kill somebody- you don't have to go looking for them, and your victim will be almost completely defenseless- because for the most part, nobody there will have a weapon.
Accident related incidents happen because someone was being a moron with a firearm. LACK OF DISCIPLINE. Schools don't teach people about guns, so people often grow up without firearm discipline.
School Targeted: these are the incidents that I think of as "school shootings"- lashing out against society, they kill people at the school without discrimination. Without justifying these shooters in any way, I believe that public schools dehumanize young people and create their own monsters.
Suicide: There's probably nothing worse for someone with mental health issues than the godless hellscape of American Educational Institutions.
THEREFORE; the solution, I believe, is very simple, but there are too many people that wouldn't like it.
Stop letting schools be such a convenient place to murder someone. Have better security. "but we don't want the children to feel unsafe".... so, what do you do? You dilude them into thinking the school doesn't need security because it's inherently sooooo safe? That's retarded. The world is a dangerous place. They want to know they are safe because they are being KEPT SAFE because people will FIGHT BACK MURDERERS for them, and they are not just being herded up to be slaughtered.
FIREARM INSTRUCTION- People should be instructed in their fundamental rights; but schools would rather prey upon you by keeping you in a victim mentality. Then some people go into law enforcement or the military, or private security and it is the first time they have ever practiced with or handled firearms. That isn't how this country was meant to operate.

I'd wager some of the suicide-victims who didn't kill others at least contemplated killing other people along with themselves: this is at least partially attached to the red commentary above.
