Hey Everyone,
We've been talking about the CC Live Chat Rooms in another thread, and I mentioned that Once Upon a Time (when CC had live chat rooms in the past,) Lynx and I tried hosting a Singles Mingle Live Chat.
I've been checking out the chat setup, as well as talking to RoboOp (the site owner,) and he was kind enough to write back with some very helpful information:
1. We can create a room just for our chat. (But if I'm understanding correctly, only members paying the subscription can create a room.) I can start a room for at least our first try. If others decide to hold meetups, at least one person would have to be a paid member to create a new room.
The room will be deleted the same day if it becomes empty but can always be re-created at another time, whenever we had another meetup.
2. Any member can enter and participate in using the basic chat, mic, and camera.
But a subscription is required for extra features like the mic queue, initiating private messages, and creating another room (however, non-subscribers can join any room).
Would anyone like to try a Meetup Chat this Friday (January 2,) or Saturday (January 3)?
I don't know what time it would be, as I'd also have to see who else might be available -- but I'd plan on it being for an hour (people could stay and chat longer of course; I would just plan on being there for an hour.)
Due to my own experience, I generally like to have one person who could help facilitate a smooth group conversation on the mic, while I tend to "man the floor" -- typing greetings and comments as people come in. I think people find it much more welcoming this way. If I can help it, I don't want to people to come in and feel like no one even noticed them.
If we run into any problems (for instance, I have already heard about an incidence of someone in a chat room trying to promote some ideas I would not have agreed with regarding race issues,) the set hour would be a good safety valve. People could go whenever they wanted, and after the hour was up, I would leave -- and report any problems to administration, asking for how it should be handled.
I know this might also be an unpopular opinion, but I don't mind if our married friends who regularly post in Singles drop in as well (which is why I would call the room The Singles And Friends Meetup.)
From what I can tell, when people click on your username, a box will come up sharing the following information from your profile:
Age
Gender
Marital Status
Nationality
Country
So it should clearly state in each person's profile box whether they are single are married. And the reason I would be willing to include married friends is because they already hang with us here, and married friends often have other single friends -- whom they might want to introduce us to (if we can prove that we can behave -- for at least an hour!)
These are all just my own ideas, but you are all welcome to post your own ideas here.
I'm going to see if I can find a partner(s) in crime to host a chat this Friday or Saturday -- feel free to post the time AND time zone that you would be interested in. We obviously can't work around EVERYONE'S schedule, but don't worry, this is just a trial run anyway.
If this idea takes off, we might be able to rope, er, I mean, gently convince, others to host meetups that also cover different days and time zones. For example, since I'm always up early anyway, I might be able to host an early morning meetup here that would be during the evening for our friends in other parts of the world.
Also, if other people were running their own meetups, maybe they'd have their own set of guidelines (such as, just for singles only, certain ages only, etc.)
I tend to be rather lenient because I see these the site and such events as a place to meet friends, and not specifically to find a date (though if God sends someone along, that's up to Him!)
This is all just trial and error so I thank everyone in advance for their patience and helpful ideas as we give it a try!
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!
