Grew up in Detroit and moved to Orlando in 1985. Relocated to Clearwater, Florida in 2014. In between Orlando and Clearwater spent 8 years in Maine.

Don't think I've ever heard the term Yankee in the midwest except in reference to the New York Yankees Major League Baseball team.
This must be a southern term. If it's any consolation, that confirms you're not a "yankee".
We on the other hand, midwesterners, would likely call you a redneck for coming from the south.
I was born in Belfast, N Ireland (which is part of the UK), lived and studied in England for some years, then worked in Dublin (Southern Ireland) for a while, then back to N Ireland to a small village just south of Belfast where I have remained...
