We all drink coffee and we know it’s a sin. It blocks God’s blessings in your life. It’s one of the little foxes that spoils the vine. In fact, just a coffee fast is more beneficial that a total water fast.

Our former pastor weighed more than my refrigerator and used to preach against coffee. I'm glad he cared about us even though we didn't always agree on non-biblical topics.

I know it can become sinful and harm some people's health as a diuretic. Minerals and electrolytes need replaced. This is true of plain water drinkers, but perhaps more in coffee, tea and pop drinkers. Pop has no health benefits, but organic coffee and tea do. Nonorganic are sprayed heavily and the toxins may outweigh benefits.

His board of trustees asked him about the caffeine in chocolate from time to time, because coffee was his pet peeve, but not caffeine in chocolate.
He liked chocolate!

Remember the teaching from the Word, :Nothing by entering into the mouth corrupts, rather it is what proceeds from the heart." All things have been made clean by the Word of Jesus Yeshua..

Correction. Not all of us drink Satan's urine. I've hated the taste of Satan's urine ever since the first time i tasted it. Anything with even a mild taste of it I can't handle.
While I think it Tastes evil, as much as I would love to say it's a sin, I can't.
In fact this is the first time I've ever heard this nonsense in my life. And I'm nearly 50. Raised as a Christian and am now as well.

I have to drink decaf due to medical issues. Caffeine literally negates the life-saving effects of my medications. At first, I was missing it, but Our God gave us an amazing brain. After about a week, my brain and body went with the old "Smells like real coffee, tastes like real coffee, drinks like real coffee...It must be high-octane, full leaded coffee." The only thing that I find problematic is when I go out for breakfast, as not all places have fresh decaf, so I end up with instant.

This was something I found looking up "SNL, Chris Farley, Columbian Coffee Crystals," and Schiller Visions
one of the funniest skits he ever did.
I decided not to post it because he uses a little spicy langue that some might take offense to.

Instead, I found a medical use for coffee.. It was used in hospitals.
Lo and behold, I immediately read your post and said, this is for Chris!
BTW, I agree that it can be therapeutic and help people with certain conditions.

Mmm, good point (ish). Sin may be a little strong, but there are things that God tells us to give up. For me, I’ve struggled to completely give up coffee. For others it’s nicotine, for others it’s alcohol, and so on. But… when I’ve fasted it, I’ve always received blessings.

That's true.
That's a passage I recently posted to a highly regarded Nutritionist, Jordan Rubin. He's helped a lot of people and God saved his life as a young man through nutritional treatments.
Some of the world's best medical Drs could not help him, but rather he grew worse. Now he helps many others.

I look at Jesus' statement in context of what they call Kosher dietary laws today. The Pharisees taught that salvation was obtained by keeping the laws rather that faith in the Savior.

I don't have reason to believe that we are supposed to prepare foods in unhealthy manners or eat at restaurants frequently. Most institutional food, like hospital food, is harmful. They lack nutrients and contain chemicals, glutens and high oxidizers. One chemical company that the local hospitals use, has slick advertising but horrible institutional "food" that literally kills patients.
The SNL skit about Folgers sounds ridiculous, but they give worse things than that through Gastric Tubes, like the worst cooking oil imaginable sprayed with heavy duty weed killer and pesticides. Glucose is another main ingredient.

Of course Jesus was speaking in generality about that which He created, rather than what passes for food these days. I don't want to write a book on the subject, but it's one I think we agree on and I'm pretty passionate about.
If not, that's ok too.

I have read that green tea is better than coffee. Gives you that pickup, while having the anxiety calming effects of the green tea.

Doctors have said caffeine hardens the arteries, causes heart problems, causes anxiety problems.

"Doctors" say a lot of things. In my experience, doctors are just as opinionated, and as frequently wrong as most averagely intelligent people.
Doctors are the ones that want to treat every kind of ailment with pills. They are also heavily influenced and probably bribed by pharmaceutical companies to prescribe them. Oh, your blood pressure is a tad on the high side? Take several pills a day to tweak it down to what "doctors" say is normal.
Cholesterol? Go on medications that have worse side effects than the cholesterol does, instead of modifying your diet to help bring it more under control. Listen to the commercials on TV about the latest and greatest drugs for depression, psoriasis, you name it.... then listen carefully to the side effects of them...

I don't know anything about green tea; I've heard it has a lot of benefits. Coffee in moderation (2 cups a day) is generally considered okay. More than that might create problems. But someone's doctor may recommend cutting it out completely for certain reasons.

That is a great one HealthAndHapiness. Unfortuntately, the last time I tried this, it was me who ended up in ICU

I cannot think of anything offhand, food or drink wise, that God has told us to give up.... what do you think we are to give up?
I don’t know bro? Do you even hear God? Why don’t you just go out and eat and drink everything imaginable? If you feel every drink and food product is fine then go on and enjoy your life with total non-restraint.

That's an uncalled for snarky (nicest word I can use) for a serious question.... tells me about all I need to know about you....."bro"

Guy is a hypocrite. It always rubs me the wrong way when someone attempts to dictate how to live my life, what to eat, what to avoid, etc. Coffee is in no way sinful regardless of the amount of consumption.

God has said that what he has made let no one call unclean. Even Paul stated that one should eat what one's conscious allows, that one is not defiled by what one eats (or drinks).

I know what you mean.
I've tried to be gentle with those with weight problems because I have had a weakness from time to time with sugar and have to do things to take control.
That led me to dietary changes like cutting out wheat and foods I react to.
As a kid I got called fatso, etc. A family member said I should suck in my gut because I looked disgusting. That did wonders for my self image. I didn't eat more than others, I had a gluten protein metabolic syndrome. It's really common.

Dad did good because he kept paying for my Kung Fu lessons. He was a fit man and ran 5 miles per day, former boxer, home gym. My teachers were really hard on us, but I needed that. It started my physical Fitness For Life Program.

I've been off coffee for a while.
Today stopped at Aldies for a bag of organic that's cheaper than most conventional coffees. I'm grateful for that to start my day. This morning it was half a grapefruit to give my brain energy. If either cause me problems, I'll cut it out.

My view with the pastor was that we all live and apply the Word to our own life. If we can help others, we should.
My preacher usually taught according to the Word, but when he got into opinions, that would be considered with the grain of salt until the Lord shows me differently. It was just a man's opinion till then.
Sometimes I think it's funny to crack a joke at certain things like the kid I posted with chocolate on his face, but actually I try to remember those days.

I felt that my pastor was hurting himself with certain choices. It might have started with certain foods like wheat. I don't know. He wasn't interested in learning areas he needed help with. We all depend on each other with certain needs. I don't know it all.
There's a book a researcher wrote called Wheat Belly which was my problem. I learned on my own through trial and error that I had a cause effect with certain foods.
