I have a friend of mine from my childhood who is a completely different man. He tells me nowadays that he believes that God and Jesus Christ are extremely evil people who are just out to destroy everyone eventually. He doesn't believe that Jesus is good and literally hates him. He truly believes that Jesus has a very, very, dark heart. I am confused because I don't know where to start. Any advice?

Have you tried asking him why he believes this? Sometimes people get like that because they're parroting someone else's views. Sometimes it's for more personal reasons.
The different reasons will likely affect how they argue their point. Understanding where they're coming from gives you a better place to start.

Very complex topic which requires a lot of back-and-forth questions. It also requires you to be somewhat knowledgeable and confident when dealing with any kind of ideas out there.
Sub gave you some great points to start but i think you should familiarize yourself more with Christianity Daniel.

Oh yes, no doubt at all.
The remedy is pray in the name of Jesus Christ.

There has to be something that we can do.
You need to ask him why he thinks this way, surely there is a reason. A lot of people think similar because of all the wars diseases and famines going on, they think GOD is not intervening and does not care. You must ask him to explain why. it is the only way to understand and from there we could think of something.

Blessings

The cross

What kind of Evil God makes himself a man in the flesh. lives a life time of rejection and suffering. endures the cross. so that his enemy can be saved.

Nicely put

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us:

and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.”

Could he be trolling you if he knows you are a Christian? Funny thing about non-believers: they expect you to better than the average Joe while claiming their superiority over you (because obviously you are brainwashed and believe in fairy tales, according to many non-believers). And then they behave in ways trying to make you fall from the pedestal they have put you on, or, conversely, to prove to themselves that they are wrong, without ever having to admit it.

My friend is dead serious. He claimed that Jesus was demon-possessed.

He could be dead serious about trying to get you to abandon your faith.

Many atheists blame religion in general and Christianity in particular for ALL of humanity's ills.

As if human nature were not to blame...

But even if he truly believes what he is saying... it gives you a starting point with him to ask why he believes that.

And if he believes Jesus was demon possessed, could he believe that he himself is demon possessed?

Not that you would ask if he is. Just ask if it is a possibility in the grand scheme of things.

Kind of odd he believes in demons. What does he identify as?

well so did the pharisees. at least they said so. but i wonder how serious they really were.

he didn't get this from nowhere, he most likely thinks something God does is unjust, and considers his own judgement superior to God's, and i'm going to bet he actually has a very misconceived view of what the Bible actually says.

you'll need to probe your friend to see why he is saying this.

Doubtful. In fact, positively unbelievable. Tell him to quit lying to himself and, if he's serious about reality, to admit he's simply mad at God.

Then, go get a sandwich with him.
