The apostles expounded upon and revealed more ofnthey Jesus was saying
“
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:
and he will shew you things to come.
He shall glorify me: for
he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that
he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”
John 16:12-15 KJV
the apostles including Paul’s writings contain much more of the nuisances and details of what Jesus was saying in the gospel the church doctrine is Jesus and his apostles teachings
Jesus words
“Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you.
Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.”
John 12:34-36 KJV
A sample of pauls words discussing that concept of the children of light and what it means tangibly
“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth
proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
Ephesians 5:8-14 KJV
“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”
1 Thessalonians 5:5-6, 8-11 KJV
Jesus taught this concept
“Watch therefore: for
ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had
known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
Therefore be ye also ready: for
in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
Matthew 24:42-44 KJV
a Paul elaborating to the church
“But
of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For
when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
Peter also elaborates on the same things Jesus taught adding more revelation
“But
the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that
all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto
the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we,
according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
2 Peter 3:10-13 KJV
it’s when we hear Jesus and then begin to hear his apostles when things open up and become clear each adds aspects to the same beautiful picture
