He said that the story isn't literal. My question to him is 'what's the point - if the story isn't literal'.Runningman said:
The Rich Man and Lazarus is a story meant to convey a point.
The rich man posited that if his brothers had just had a little more information, then their hearts would be changed, and they would seek the Lord. The point is made that it is faith, not more information, that saves.
This fact is proven by the Revelation account of the followers of antichrist who encounter firsthand the demonstration of God's wrath and power. Their mocking and cursing only accelerates. More "infomation" only serves to further harden their hearts.
...Be Like?
“An old Scottish preacher had to go past a glass factory each day on his way
to the church. On one occasion he had a little extra time, and since the factory
door was open, he decided to look inside. There before him was a large, blazing
furnace. The minister gazed into the white, blue, and purple mass of liquid
flame, and the intense heat almost seared his face.
As he turned to leave, a workman standing in the shadows nearby overheard
him exclaim, ‘Ho mon! What shall Hell be like!’...
...As we know, the Lord, more than any other, warned about the danger of Hell
(Gr. gehenna) and hellfire. Most would agree this is the literal “Hell” of the Bible.
And the Lord had much to say about this realm.
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!...Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?” (Matt. 23:29,33)...
...He adds in Mark 9:43,44 that some will “go into hell, into the fire that never
shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not [apparently a reference to
the soul], and the fire is not quenched.” If they go “into Hell,” are we not to
understand that Hell is a place, and not merely a state of mind? The fire
that is said never to be quenched clearly coincides with the “everlasting
fire” prepared for the devil and his angels.
Furthermore, we know the fire is literal because the Lord Himself confirmed
this when He gave the interpretation of the parable of the wheat and tares
(Matt. 13:36-43)...
...But some will argue...
...the Apostle Paul gives us the most chilling description of Hell, that those
who enter through its gates will suffer everlasting destruction or loss of
wellbeing (II Thes. 1:9). They will be forever separated from the presence of
the Lord and the glory of His power.
As the old Scottish preacher exclaimed...

What Will Hell Be Like?

Precious friends:
Grace, Peace, And JOY In Christ, And In His Word Of Truth, Rightly
Divided (+ I and II)!
Infinity divided by a large number = infinity divided by a small number. They're the same, equal - fair. They both equal infinity.I don't believe in hell where people are burning there now and had the unfortunate place of being born before me and having to burn for their sins much longer than someone who dies after they do where is the fairness of that?
if the wicked are ashes under our feet the wicked have burned up and they are eternally destroyed.
Ecc 9:5 KJV For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Please show me scripture where it explains that the soul dies and Hell will not be forever. Other posters please provide proof that contradicts the statement that the soul dies and Hell will not be forever. Thank you all for your input.
That is a pagan teaching with no biblical support. The soul is not immortal. The immortal soul is a tradition from pagan teachings that goes right back to the first lie of Satan.Speaks of the body, not the soul. The soul is everlasting and is an integral part of all men. When a wicked man dies, his soul goes to Hades to await the final White Throne Judgment. It shall then undergo the Second Resurrection and be transferred to the Lake of Fire where the unredeemed shall be tormented forever.

This death = eternal torment in the Lake of Fire.Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Keep reading.. you quoted that there will be a judgement of the dead and those raised in the second resurrection will be thrown into the lake of fire. This death = eternal torment in the Lake of Fire.
Revelation 20:
To begin to teach us about what happens after we dieHe said that the story isn't literal. My question to him is 'what's the point - if the story isn't literal'.
It came from GodHow does our soul stay alive or conscious for eternity?
Then it must be literal. To begin to teach us about what happens after we die
It's like most of Jesus teachings it's conveying truth it's not a literal story he's remembering but more an educational storyThen it must be literal.![]()
