This is a good reminder... i havent fasted since the year started. Now last sermon i kind of missed coz i was teaching the children. My msg was on cheerful giving to the Lord based on the command to Israel to give their jewelries, precious stones, fine threads and linen, acacia wood, and spices for the Lord's Temple. They gave until it was overflowing and had to be commanded to stop. Ah that it was the same today.
I didn't go to church last Sunday, but I went last night (Wednesday). The sermon was about John 15:16.
God didn't choose us because of our "goodness"; we were no better than others. But now, after having been washed by the blood of the Lord Jesus we have to be different from the world.

I don't actually have a church. I just went to that one the last two Sundays because it was the closest one to me.
So, you are blessed to have a good church close to your home. There are several churches within a 4-kilometer radius from my home (all from my own denomination) but I go to one that is 8 kilometers away.
To be honest, I'd be more comfortable at another, but the people are very loving, so I don't mind visiting them.
This Sunday morning the sermon was about Ezekiel 18:

I stayed home today. I was reading Joshua, and in chapter 24, the beginning of verse 15 is what stood out. "And if it seem evil to you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve..,." Joshua's exhortation is a great reminder that we need to be mindful of whom we serve-every day!

Luke 10:41-42 Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Martha was distracted by many things. But Mary's attention was on hearing the word of God.
We spend all our energy and strength on things in the world which leaves us busy and tired and as a result we have no time for the word of God.
Hearing the word of God heals our soul and increases faith.
We spend all our time on job and getting an education. While those things are important, they cannot go with us to the grave, they are of no importance in the grave and we must not let it steal all of our time so that we have none left for hearing the word of God.

I did mention somewhere that i was more like mary than martha, and can read, study, listen talk abt God's word all day perhaps. But that is not all God wants-- He wants us to act and work as well=)). So we also feel guilty when we only listen, wc is not what God said we need to do in James' book, but to do our faith, and that's God nudging us about some things to be done, right.

Yes we can do whatever needs doing, but often times we neglect spending time in the word of God. But sure, we do have to work and other important things to tend to.
I didn't go anywhere today. I read about Samson. I've always related to Samson, because-like him-I was blessed with great strength, and lived foolishly much of the time. I spent many years chasing questionable women. And though I spent much of my former life living against God, near the end of my days of folly, blind to everything but the misery I couldn't bear, I cried out to God, and He gave me peace. The next chapter, 18, is about Micah, and a number of other characters, and the tribe of Dan. What I related most to in this chapter was the fact that there was no king(Jesus), so every man did what was right in his own eyes. That's how everyone lived while I was growing up, and there was definitely no King Jesus.
