Okay, so what did you manage to do today? :D
Some task that had been lingering around for days, weeks, months or even years .. krhhmm, not that I would speak from the experience..

For me sometimes it is hard to start doing something. Somedays I would have the energy but certainly not the mood! Or vice versa. So it can be helpful for me to talk to someone while I do something, but for example my sis doesn't want me to do things while I am on the phone with her, she cannot hear a thing. I don't know if it is just the connection between us, because my brother nor any of my aunts have never complained of not hearing and I even asked them about it.

Also I'm getting the inspiration via what others are doing. Even from putting a video of someone doing some chore or reno in the background. Audio books, yes, but I never know what to listen, so that is a problem. If I find a good sermon, and what I need to do is easy (like oiling the sauna etc), then I can listen to it and really focus on the sermon at he same time.
But talking to someone while I do things is really good option, and I mean via phone, because of course I give my attention to the one who is visiting me.. unless it is my brother :D then I do stuff while talking to him.. or he just eats food I made for him while I do something else.

I never thought that I am the person who wants someone to be there when I do things, like my brother wants (but I guess it does inspire me). He once was doing something for me, either plumbing or electrical work and I was just standing there next to him while he explained by mumbling to me what he was doing. So I deciced I would do something else as I was no big help to him.. As I was leaving he asked: "Where you are going?" in a voice that said dare to leave! So I stayed. He likes to have someone near and just even give him some tools if needed, but mostly for that he likes to tell what he is doing. And sometimes I even ask him, because I know he likes to explain things... even tho time to time I do not understand a thing he says
Also if I have someone to do things with me, it does not feel like such a huge task, like painting the house, doing that alone would feel like it never ends..

So, what I finally managed to do.. after a week of nightshifts, which made me feel not alive at all and it was super hard to start doing anything. But finally I managed to to this I have been putting off for at least a year.. Well, I kind of HAD to it at this point.
Cleaning my powder rooms water trap under the sink, the sink was almost fully clogged at this point.
It would have been an easy job (and I would have done it earlier), unless the cabinet under my sink would not be missing few screws on one hinge, that I am still unable to install back, the screw holes are too messed up to put it back, door stayed there just by leaning to the other door. (I so wish that the cabinet would be made of wood, but no.. and, yes I probably should ask someone to do it, I certainly do not want to buy a new cabinet because of that one door/hinge!)

I removed that one door and then it was easy to dismember all those hair monsters that lived in the water trap and pipes. And now I have only one door on my cabinet... that is my next mission ..for some day ..or year. Maybe just a curtain as a quick fix at first. So the main thing was a easy task, but the other did not get finished. And that bothers me a lot.

Starting the tasks is hard depending on different things, I may not have tools at the moment for it (tools may be at my brothers place), nor the materials.. Or sometimes it is lack of my skills, because I may not have a idea how it is really done. Like the hinge situation on my cabinet..

For me, summer is better for my mood, or spring as it is so light so long, I usually get my inspiration to do things when it is evening, and in winter it means darkness. Which also means I am not so eager to do things..
Also when it is warmer and bright outside, my energy levels boosts up with those.

~ ~ ~ ~

So, it is hard to you to start the tasks? Or you can start easy and it is hard to finish them?

Or you don't face this problem at all? How, what is your super power?

What gives you the boost to do things?

Do you listen to radio, music or podcasts? Sermon maybe?

Do you do better if someone is over? Or when you are alone? While on a phone call?

If you are married, do you feel easier to do things now or back then when you lived alone? Do you prefer to do things together?

What are the factors that affect you? Time of the day, darkness etc?

Do you set up a time for some tasks?

Do you write up the things you need to do in order to get them done?

And the main question, what you managed to do today?

Hey, very interesting insights from you! I feel very much the same way in some respects. My to-do list is always very long. And working through it is a challenge. One thing that I find particularly difficult is emptying the dishwasher. I don't know why, but I really don't like doing it and often leave it until later, taking the clean dishes straight out of it when I need it for cooking or meals. Then the dirty dishes pile up in the sink, which I don't like either. I actually like having a tidy kitchen. So it's a constant conflict.

I have a lot on my plate at the moment because I moved a few weeks ago. Furnishing the new apartment the way I want is time-consuming, and I'm still not done. There are so many things to think about and get hold of. And when you start something, you realize that something else is missing... The right screws, the right tools... Well, one thing after another.

In terms of motivation, etc., I'm better in the fall and winter. I like winter and the quieter season.

One of the things I've managed to do in the last few days is pick up the wooden panel (cut to size) from the hardware store, which I want to install as a new wall in my future bedroom. But I measured incorrectly the dimensions for transport and almost couldn't get it into my car. Speaking of cars... I have to replace my current one very soon. But I was able to take care of that too, and I hope it will work out in the next few days.

I'm not particularly good at multitasking and usually concentrate on one task at a time. Except when I'm on the phone with my mother, then I often empty the dishwasher at the same time.

Congratulations on managing to clean the siphon. (y) I'm familiar with that too, my father had his own plumbing company.

I could also sing a song about cabinet doors and hinges. Some of the hinges on the cabinet doors broke during the move. Since there are three per door, I was able to make a temporary repair by attaching only two (one at the top and one at the bottom). But now it's not very stable and I still need to get two new hinges. Now we could have a competition to see who can finish repairing their closet first. Maybe that will help with motivation. ;)

I'm already seeing a pattern of getting stuff done while we talk to close relatives. Maybe because we know them so well that we don't have to listen as close. =^.^=

Wow, @Tazzo, reading through yours and @Coll2-8's posts sure did make me feel... Lazy.

And extra kudos to you for getting all this done AFTER WORKING NIGHT SHIFTS. I worked night shift for I think 2 years, and I never found the extra energy to do much of anything. I liked working it, but I had all I could do to just concentrate on trying to get to sleep during the day.

I've gone through cycles in my life where I'm trying to do or participate in everything all at once; these days I'm more burnt-out and just try to concentrate on the tasks before me.

I always split daily tasks into two groups: "Things I HAVE To Do Today," and "Things I'd LIKE To Get Done Today."

These days, I seem to just cross the finish line on the "have-to's" and don't quite make it to many of the "like-to's," but so far, my life hasn't totally fallen apart so at least I'm hanging on by a thread! :p

Speaking of which, this was a great thread idea.

Thank you so much for sharing! I kind of envy the relationships you have with your siblings. :)

What I got done yesterday:
- Went to church
- Came home
- Ate three bites of chocolate pecan pie
(This is an accomplishment. I did not eat the whole pie.)

What I plan to do today:
- Go to w*rk
- Come home
- Eat three bites of chocolate pecan pie
- Maybe clean out the car
(I planned on doing that last one yesterday, and Saturday, and Friday, and it never got done. Will it get done today? Um... Maybe.)

You probably should call your mum everytime your dishweasher cycle is done :D Tidy kitchen is best thing when entering there in the morning! Idea of it.. I may have few dishes left (that did not fit the dishwasher) in the sink that might ruin it in some mornings.

Night shifts seem to become like that, work - sleep, nothing much more, at least for me when the years pile up

My problem with the list is, I would put all in the list that I HAVE to do today, and none to that I would LIKE to get done. And still not accomplish them

I hope you get to rest too and allow yourself to do so, if you are feeling burnt-out ❤️

So how big were the three bites? :D

With my self-discipline almost all pie would be those three bites..

Can I add my car cleaning to your list?

Hi @Tazzo, I like these kind of threads this to me is what Christianity is all about. Fellowshipping on a day to day basis.

I am like you that I will rot in bed all day on my days off work if no one is here singing or talking or wanting to do stuff together because most of my family are miles away and at work so I had a bath this morning and did some washing and the only thing to keep me company was music. I also caught up on some family whattsap silly chats we have each day.
I'm actually back in bed now because it's comfy, and I am typing this listening to Stevie Wonder.

Nightshifts are truelly draining I did them for years. The only good thing for me was coming home and snuggling up in bed in the morning when everyone is getting up and going to work in the rain. haha
It's good that you are aware of your natural cycle. And your family are supporting you. 😊 Winter is quite a drag and I wish I could hibernate like a hedgehog. Spring/ Summer is my favourite time of year. I like hearing and seeing life in full bloom.

Tomorrow I am back at work. I love my job. I am a front of house service staff to Pilots and aerospace engineers. If I didnt have this job I would be completely full of cobwebs by now and you's be peeling me off the bedsheets 😬

Didn't get the car cleaned out. Because it's freezing cold out there.

"What about two or three days ago when it was NOT freezing cold out there?"

Shut up. :p

Hi @Spiritwalker,

Welcome to the forum! I've really been enjoying your posts and the bright optimistic attitude you've been sharing.

I like these kinds of threads as well -- the ones that talk about people's everyday lives. Over the years (as there is so much more online competition and we don't get as much traffic,) the Singles Forum has become a sort of default for people who just want to hang out and talk about life.

Because we have many married friends who also join us, we also often posts threads like this in the Family Forum, and sometimes in Miscellaneous.

Hoping to see you wherever any of the Mischievous Mayhem might show up! :D

Hi Seoul and thanks for the appreciation😁it’s good to know I’m not alone in preferring people’s everyday struggles and stories.

I have a confession to make though…
If it wasn’t for @Dino246 pointing me back to the Lord on my second post I would have probably been still adrift on the bible discussion forums 🫣
which is not really not for me because I haven’t really studied the bible to know much about what things mean in depth.

So I’ll drift along on these more comfy
Areas it’s much more relaxed aand feels more my kinda thing😀

I saw in your introductory post that you said you had lots of questions -- feel free to ask in some of these threads or write your own threads in these areas of the forum, and we'll be happy to help if we can. Sometimes questions and comments get lost in the threads, but please don't give up.

The Singles Forum often gets a bad rap because we don't quote Scriptures in every thread or post. I've been criticized for that many times over the years, but I feel my calling is to the everyday person -- and that includes those who might not know enough about the Bible or might be too intimidated to have people quoting it from every angle at them whenever they try to speak.

For my own self, I grew up steeped in 24/7 church culture and teaching, literally, as I went to Christian schools, and it's left me dying to talk about things other than what people can recite back to me. I want to hear what people have to say off the top of their heads regarding life and their experiences, not just what they've learned or have been taught to say.

We also have several members here who are VERY knowledgeable about the Bible -- I call two of them my walking concordances, but there are several more here who could win that title, I'm sure.

It's just that Biblical knowledge and prowess isn't shown off as much on this side of the forum, because we usually focus people witnessing how they incorporate their faith into their everyday lives.

Very glad to have you here and hope you'll dive right in! :)

Hello @Spiritwalker ! And welcome to CC! :D

Yes, somedays it feels like staying in the bed or in the corner of a sofa  Only that have this furry friend with pretty eyes and a twirling doughnut (wagging tail) that once again when I settled myself into a sofa, came to me using those tactics to get on a walk (I would have taken her to a walk a bit later).

I actually like winter (my energy just does not agree to this) because there is not so much work to do outside (let's not talk about indoor work that needs to be done..) I can relax, and my ideal winter day is: lighting the fireplace... and then curl into a corner of a sofa to absorb that heat :DWhile it is snowing outside.

It is great that you have a work that you love and enjoy going to! 😊

Have you ever finished your to-do list, or something new always pops up in there when you are about to finish it?
It feels like for every item I complete, three new ones appear. So the list keeps getting longer and longer. I've even organized some of them on my computer and divided them into different categories. :giggle:

My friend and I just had a conversation about emptying the dishwasher rightaway (not) and it seems to be a thing
You probably should call your mum everytime your dishweasher cycle is done :D Tidy kitchen is best thing when entering there in the morning! Idea of it.. I may have few dishes left (that did not fit the dishwasher) in the sink that might ruin it in some mornings.
Yes, that's really an issue. And I came to the conclusion that there is only one real solution to the problem: you need two dishwashers, one is for the dirty dishes and one is for the clean dishes from the last wash cycle. Then you don't have to empty it anymore and can just take what you need directly from it.

But talking to my mother on the phone might be the cheaper solution after all. :giggle:

In that case, I have to call my handyman pretty fast, there is not way I am fixing that hinge or that cabinet wall by myself... Would you start with your bedroom wall, so I can get a bit of a headstart on our hinge contest..
Yes, it's a deal. But, I've already started on the wall. But you're in luck, the new sofa has arrived and I still have to assemble it, which is more urgent than the cabinet door. ;)

But what is this contest actually about? Hmm... the winner washes the loser's car...?:)

Who said anything about washing a car? I just need to clean the junk out of it.

I'm a guy. You think I actually wash cars? That's what God gave us rain for.

Oh snap!

BDF (Bible Discussion Forum) was supposed to be a good place to discuss theology and scripture. It has devolved into a very prideful place where people insult each other routinely and like to call each other not a REAL Christian.

Congrats on finding the better parts of the forum, and my compliments for surviving your brush with BDF.

Please stay! We like your kind here in singles. Most of our topics are chill but if you have a serious question just go ahead and start a thread, I've gotten some great input and insight that way. You can generally trust this area of the forum to be honest, kind and helpful. (though we do have our moments!)

Welcome aboard! 😎
