Hey Everyone,

What kinds of things do you place around your living space that inspires and encourages you every time you look at it?

I was thinking about this as I was looking at the little cross I have hanging near my coffee maker that says, "Good Morning, this is God. I will be handling all your problems today."

Every time I see it, I give a little sigh and say a little prayer that I will remember that God is in control throughout the day. I also have a card that a friend sent me that I put near my "Bible study station" that shows Jesus holding a lamb, along with a passage stating that He is our Good Shepherd.

Though these items are small and seemingly insignificant, I find that things like this often feel like the secret "hiding places" where God meets us and gives us rest for our souls.

* What kinds of things do you have in your surroundings that remind you of God's presence and nature?

* What inspired you to put them there?

* Do other people notice these things, and what have they said about them? (Not because we should depend on what people think, but because I was wondering if others in your life have noticed what you are surrounding yourself with.)

It doesn't have to be some kind of material trinket -- maybe it's a tree, plant, or flowers that gives you peace and reminds you of God's magnificence, or a hug from a furry companion.

I would love to know what inspires you to remember that God is with you throughout each of our challenging days!

For me, it's the night time sky... Watching the seasons change. With each change, I'm reminded of what God said in Genesis 1:14... And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years..

I pick flowers, if I have to pick a thing. Sherlock Holmes said it best:

“What a lovely thing a rose is!"

"Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its color are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers.”

After thinking about it for half of my job shift, I can't think of anything that really inspires me. No pictures, no objects, no posters with deep sayings, no anything.

What does inspire me is some of the people I know, and what inspires me about them is their attitude. Some of them I know on the job, some are at church, some in my family... some very intelligent, some not quite so much, some talk a lot, some don't talk much at all, but they all have the same attitude. All of them try their best at what they do, don't talk bad about other people and try to help wherever they can. That inspires me a lot.

I really should tell those people more often how much they inspire me.

I have always loved flowers, and, not being able to purchase them everyday as I wish I could, have tried for some time to grow them on my own.

How has it gone? Uh...

Let's just say, as long as I'm around, all you gardening enthusiasts and green thumbs out there will NEVER be out of a job.

well, spring is here and so there are flowers at the moment,,,so many different colours (I have a rainbow garden... I dont follow those garden stylists who dictate you should only have flowers of a certain shade in your garden...what is this racist gardening? ugh)

I look outside, a clear blue Sky reminds me of God, but even if its all clouded over I still think of God protecting us because He comes in clouds...

I do have reminders in my bedroom just bits here and there of scriptures, and my mug, I bought a special one from the christian store cos I drink out of every day and it just says THANKFUL on it.

I like your cross--God will be handling your problems today. :)

Now the problem for me is remembering to LOOK at those things that are in plain site. As an example, I have 4 bible verse pictures hanging in my apt. and they over time have blended into the background. I think I need something I can put right on my coffee maker to remind me--one of the verses is "Do not fear..." Joshua 1-9 "Be the light" Matthew and "Faith can move mountains..." Matthew 17:20 (two of these). In any case, I'm new to this thread and I didn't have high hopes--I had tried christian posts in the past and they were often weird or alternatively, not much was said about their Christian faith. In any case, your short post was encouraging--thank you!

I often walk through Christian bookstores when I see them, looking at every little trinket and treasure that is designed to help us remember our faith (as well as support capitalism, lol, but that's another subject for another thread. :cool:)

I really like the way you pointed out that "over time", these things "blend into the background."

How right you are about that!!! Over the years, Christian friends and family have gifted me with many such items, so I'm trying to pare them down to ones I will actually pay attention to and can switch out for something else that grabs my attention if I get too "used to them."

Great to see you here and hope to get to know you better in future threads!

Thanks, SS for your kind reply! I just had this ridiculous image of empty wall space with nails and me going around moving the pictures so I'd notice them. :) I think you're idea of changing for something new is a good one--newness and change do grab our attention! Blessings, V

The sunrise, even on days when it’s hard to get up, it’s hard not to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the sunrise.

I have a few pieces of jewelry and some photos that bring back precious memories. I treasure those things, but I don’t display them all the time. As much as I treasure them, they can also bring back the feeling of loss.

Sunrises always look clean to me, no? Clear like. Everything's still wet from all the night work. ;)
