In the old testament, the law was explained to man using fleshly symbols to explain the ways of the Lord. Circumcision was explained by cutting flesh, the law to only "eat", or put in our minds and body what is clean and holy was explained by laws regarding physical food, it is a testament of the spiritual God giving man spiritual laws in physical symbols.

Obedience resulted in physical blessings, as well as giving good life in the spirit. The physcal death of Saints who repented of sin and loved the Lord resulted in sleep until Christ was crucified when they woke and walked the streets of Jerusalem.

The New Testament is about how Christ did not change the spirit of God told through those symbols, but he gave us the law in spirit and truth. It is about how, when we repent of sin and love the Lord and His ways, we are given eternal life.
