There are actually numerous scientific studies that show looking at porn and frequent masturbation are detrimental to a persons mental health, they can have the same damages as frequent drug use. Is it a sin? No I don't believe it is, BUT what usually comes along with it is a sin. It is normal and healthy for a male to be released every so often. Even if masturbating is not involved, it can and will happen involuntary. That's not wrong, or sinful, it's normal.

But again, done frequently, it is not healthy at all, and it's easy to become addicted to. You can read numerous books, and they will all point you to a good direction, but the choice to be done needs to be your own. In that, no book can help you.

I agree with the addiction part..but on the "will happen involuntary" aren't guys visually minded? Wouldn't you lust in your head instead of using your eyes?

I'm actually wondering where it says in the bible that masturbation is a sin..... someone mentioned 1 Corinthians 6:18 but it refers to sexual immorality as being a sin. Where does it say masturbation is an act of sexual immorality. This is the first Ive heard of this.

I don't think the Bible talks about masturbation being a sin. But what comes along with masturbation like lustful thoughts is a sin. And I don't think people can masturbate without such thoughts, which kinda makes masturbation sinful after all. Lustful thoughts leads to sexual immorality and that's probably what Xioneks was talking about.

If you need scientific literature about the topic, the involuntary release phenomenon is documented Human bodies do all kinds of crazy things, usually without us knowing about it.

For anyone worried about the medical ramifications of any of this. Your body should adjust naturally. White blood cells will absorb what your body isn't being forced to dispose of, and there are no long term detriments to your health in almost all cases. If anyone thinks there is, they can always consult a physician.

Your libido naturally declines a bit with less use. Lots of very nice things happen - every single woman you meet looks prettier, you have less trouble talking to them, and without any outside pressures, your focus is on creating long lasting emotional bonds. I can't speak to this last part, but I'm pretty sure that those emotional bonds probably do make for a very happy marriage.

I honestly believe if I gave my most inward thoughts to this teenager's candid question, it would be too disturbing and downright offensive to some legalistic CHRISTIANS. My dad is a minister and I am a licensed minister. I am also a father to a son and a daughter. I work and manage a homeless shelter, which deals with a lot of people who are either sexually active beyond the 'norm" or victims of sexual abuse. I say all of this to say this: Masterbation, in and of itself, is not a SIN. In fact...and I am blushing now, I had a vasectomy in my thirties. My wife and I were extremely sexually active and my libido was on an all-time high. Once the operation was done, I had to be 'checked' to make sure my sperm count was at GROUND ZERO. It took a full 17 weeks of continual visits to the hospital, several days a week, for my system to fully rid itself of those little tadpoles. Guess what...it had to be done on premises and 'fresh' each time. Yes...masterbation is very mandatory in certain situations....did I worry about it being a SIN? NO way..it is called LIFE...and only a male knows the internal pressure and venting process. Did it involve porno? NO..DID it create lustful thoughts? UH...not that I recall. I also know of certain clinics that provide videos and magazines to 'help' the man as he donates his sperm or has it tested. To everything, there is a time and a season. If a young male is having problems controlling his actions towards a female...when a male's hormones are off kilter, when certain medications and diet are causing embarrassing physical arousals, and even stress plays a part in the whole masterbation scenario. It kept me a virgin until my wedding night. It kept my brother, a soldier, true to his wife as he served overseas. There are a host of solid reasons why self indulgence and private sexual tension venting IS necessary...and my family doctor agrees. Who says that CHRISTIANS do not have natural inclinations and sexual cravings? Within my own church community, there is not one single young person in the last ten years, who has waited until a wedding ceremony to have sex. Perhaps if they had embraced masterbation as a natural means of easing up on the temptation, they would still be virgins on their wedding day.
Why can't masterbation be a fun endulgence between a married couple as part of foreplay? Also..as we age, sexual intercourse for whatever reason, may be too painful to endure....what would be 'wrong' if both spouses were honest enough to face the fact and use masterbation as an alternative way of enjoying and giving each other physical pleasure? There is no need to be prudish or Victorian, even as a CHRISTIAN. I can come up with as many reasons masterbation is natural as those who claim masterbation is sinful.

it's bad and a sin. It's not only lustful but addictive(due to the dopamine released with each session.) it's a selfish act which is opposite of marriage which is all bout being selfless. It's addictive to the point that you have to do it and then when you can't feel the pleasure like you use to then you look for other ways to get the maximum pleasure again and for many teens that means sex without marriage or some other category of porn that is completely nasty and disgusting.

It begins to take up your thoughts, and actions and leaves some damaging images in your brain that will dilute God's holy vision of marriage and the sex there of. Masturbation and porn can lead to many problems once you get married, including ED.

it's a sin that is quietly kept in the dark but destroys more men and women than people know. It's literally bad for the brain. It reduces confidence, focus, stops guys from actively person working relationships, and causes many guys to seek sex or other nasty things.

Yea - I feel weird with it. people r pretty comfortable talking about sex but not this....except for me - I dont talk about either... But I guess thats not healthy
