Was Jesus Really Killed?

It does appear by this passage and other passages that he was killed but my point is they saw no difference in ordering or sentencing him to be killed and actually pulling the trigger. My claim is that they did everything they could to actually pull the trigger but Jesus actually pulled his own trigger by giving up his life. And we see that he gave up his life after he said "it is finished".

The point of the matter is very clear from Scripture and from what has already been posted here:
(1) Jesus gave up his life voluntarily - and if He had not done this - no one would have been able to kill Him
(2) Jesus did not kill himself - that is - he did not commit suicide - he was murdered by evil men.

Both (1) and (2) are completely true and do not contradict one another.

I have to wonder "was Jesus really killed or not". Did anyone take his life? It is commonly taught that the Romans and Jews killed Jesus but is that really what happened?

I think the closest thing we can agree on is that Jesus was tortured, but he surrendered his spirit to the Father. He died before the other two people on crosses, i believe he gave up his life literally, and it wasnt taken by the Romans, but they tortured and put him in a position where he would of died.

I think there is good evidence to say that he was not killed but rather he gave up or laid down his own life on his own free will and nobody took it from him. We see in John 10:18..."The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father". So we see that he never actually was killed. He gave up his life by his own free will.

I'm reminded of the humility required not to come down from the cross at any time and crush them when he had the power to do so.

Since the scripture states that "The wages of sin is death," then Jesus died a literal death. He would have had to in order to satisfy death on behalf of all believers. When Jesus said "No one takes my life from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord," it means that He allowed them to take His life for the sake of those who would believe in Him. He could have kept from being crucified if He wanted to, but then we would still be in our sins because we would have no blood covering us. For the scripture says, "unless there is a shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness for sins." We would have no blood sacrifice. His body functions were failing from His beatings and His being crucified and since He had fulfilled the scriptures, He released His spirit from His body. It was also necessary for Jesus to die prior to the order given to break their legs in fulfillment of the scripture regarding Him which says, "He protects all His bones; not one of them will be broken." If Jesus had not released His spirit He would have still been alive and His legs would have also been broken along with the other two.

The Passover Lamb was pointing to Christ. For regarding the preparation of the Passover Lamb, God said "you are not break any of its bones." The Jewish leaders didn't realize that they were sacrificing the actual Passover Lamb. To be sure, Jesus died from His injuries which He willfully allowed them to inflict. He suffered a real death.

1corinthians chapter good chapter to read. in addition, all four gospels are eyewitnesses to The death, burial, and Ressurection.
The body of Jesus died. it had why? for the payment of sin but you can't be resurrected if you did NOT DIE. Period.

Agreed! Jesus had to suffer a literal physical death and that on our behalf.

yes, he suffered a real physical death but until he gave up his spirit he would not have died and if he went with his supernatural side could have come down from the cross at any time a crush them. He, however, yielded to his human side and gave up his spirit unto death.

I beg to differ. Jesus was a real human being and His body was failing. He would not have remained alive for much longer if He hadn't given up His spirit.

"Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross."

If He hadn't given up His spirit, His body would have certainly failed shortly afterwards.

When we choose to die we are choosing 'when' we die but not choosing to die.

Jesus chose to die for us as someone who wouldn't die otherwise.
