I felt we needed a thread about useless (or not useless) last-minute Christmas gifts, so here it is for anyone who needs some last-minute ideas.... or not.

Pictures are optional.

I'll start:
A roll of duck tape

unicorn-shaped soaps

A whole frozen turkey....

It won't thaw in time....so it's useful but useless at the same time.

Foam insulation, for a not-useless gift (that might be useless to some folks). Surprisingly, I use that stuff way more than duct tape.

And for an actual useless gift, I spotted these useless things somewhere online...

When we were kids (aeons ago), we used to give a cigarette rolling machine to my grandfather, every Christmas that I remember. We (4) would watch him like hawks while he used it for the first, and, almost certainly the last time. We did not see him often and I never saw him use the machine after Christmas. So of course we bought him a new one.

What an awesome thread idea, @zeroturbulence!

I have to confess, I would love those little unicorn soaps, so feel free to pass them over.

I was thinking of another category -- gifts we THINK we have no use for but sometimes turn out to be the one of the best things we've ever received.

When I was in high school, the "fun" gifts stopped and most everything became practical, and so one year I got a basic tool kit and jumper cables.

To most teenagers, these seem like atrocious gifts -- but many decades later, I still have them -- and they have FAR outweighed all the emotional nonchalance I had when first opening them!

I no longer receive gifts, but like to shop 1/2 price sales around this time for things I'll use all year (until the next big sale.)

Of course, I love "Gifts With Purchase" but I HATE it when the GWP's are useless junk.

Last week, I received an order with some stupid plastic keychain charm (it wasn't even cute, humph!) as the gift with purchase. It wasn't even appealing enough to give away, and so, it went straight into the trash (my apologies to Mr. Landfill.)

(It was basically a miniature, much less detailed version of this hideous thing.)

Jumper cables are an ever present help in time of trouble.

It's a perilous gift though. The people who want them already have them. The people who need them probably won't like getting them.

Let's see my useless gift will be.... clothes that don't fit

My useful but underappreciated gift will be .... dog waste bags

And the closest to a last minute gift I gave this year (and a go to for me) is a dollar tree mug with tea bags or cocoa mix packets inside.

Well, at least you don't hate anyone enough to gift the dreaded popcorn tin.

We passed the popcorn tin tower at Walmart earlier today and I asked my wife if we disliked anyone enough to give them that. She said no....

I think the little gingerbread lady is adorable. :giggle:

this actually occurred at a party, not a Christmas party as some would call it. a guy, 1 of our friends, who has a good job & plenty of cash, gave a guy who is a milk bottle collector, a broken milk bottle for Christmas! yes, you read that right. his g.f at the time always wished he would take her out to dine at gourmet restaurants but he was frugal & wouldn't oblige.
