In this sermon we get to understand the importance of having assurance of salvation, how you can have assurance, and how you can know you have assurance. From RC Sproul approaching his pension years 🙂

Key point to the sermon

People will know inside if there saved or not.

Which when you think about it, its suggesting the decision of knowing is more important than not knowing, and definitely something that comes from believing of being made to know by conscience for everybody and absolutely everybody by God.

From the speaker there is big request to seek that assurance of salvation.

There is definitely a way of having assurance of salvation. And there is a most definitely a call from God to seek that assurance of salvation through his word.

A bit of wit

There are four kinds of people in the world

There are those people who can count and those who can't, of course this is a bit of wit when adding up, but it certainly counts in adding up Gods word.

But we must not discriminate the four types of different people the speaker says with all conviction , 🙂

As the adding up is done by a state of conscience between the person and God.

A person can know there unsaved for sure by there conscience and vice versa.

Theres many good points raised

Here's the sermon

Oh goodie so here's the true assurance part, of knowing you can have assurance.
If you watch the very important first sermon, which you would really need to watch in full time. I personally I feal it's worth it before starting this one.

Oops nearly forgot,

The final part, understanding the genuine assurance of salvation.

And understanding regeneration

So the question is, are there four kinds of people in the would

A person who is unsaved and who knows it,

A person who is saved and knows he is saved, knows they are in a state of grace. He has full assurance

A person who is saved but don't know it, it's possible to be in a state of grace but does not know he has full assurance. But there are concerning questions about this

A person who is unsaved but know they are assured they are saved,

The discussion is based on we need to study the counterfeit, the more we can understand the assurance.

It isn't a Joke this discussion, because in one sense heretics have helped us to fully understand the bible, on the bases that the first ever new testament had lots of heresy, where the author had a problem with the God of the old testament.

So by learning heresy we learn the truth.

All of these four groups of people can be answered with scripture.

Just a follow up on my last post

Marcion was the first person to ever publish a new testament bible, the bible was rejected because of heresy, as it was deemed that the author had a problem with the God of the old testament. The belief is called Marcionism, incidentally Marcions father was a member of the Catholic church.

Jordan you said,

"From the speaker there is big request to seek that assurance of salvation.

Can you give me scriptures that support were supposed to be seeking the assurance of salvation by God?

The word is plerophoria in the Greek, means full assurance, a fullness. Only used 4 times in the NT.

What I'm asking you is for the scripture that puts seeking in front of that Greek word. Those Greek words for seeking would be ekzeteo, epizeteo, and zeteo.

And the question is asked why on the bases of four types of people see post 4 which is important

Now when posting a thread about a speaker it's best not to shoot the messenger.

Examining ourselves to make sure we are"in faith" is in effect asking that we make sure our "surrendered life " is genuine, and being supported by the many daily decisions we make everyday.

Doesn't address "seeking assurance " and no scripture will.

Called out ones who are surrendering their lives to Him understand that thinking about "self assurance " is the opposite of surrendering a life that is nolonger theirs.

The called out ones in the state of continually surrendering their lives to Him know that's none of their business anymore, that's Gods business now.

RC Sproul has built at least this discernment on the mistranslated words believe, believer, and believing. So it's error.

you may have watched the sermons but did you realise the importance of the why the four types of different people need assurance. ?

I think if you did you would not need to ask this question

Your not getting the point. If your trying to find out if your salvation is assured, you probably don't have it.

For someone "in faith ", in a personally surrendered life, self assurance would be no more than a fleeting thought that leaves as quick as it came.

I respect you asking the question and don't want to dump on you, but that flies in the face of true saving faith.

God tells us that all who trust/believe/have faith - will be saved, plus He never lies. Therefore examining yourself is important. When we examine ourselves, we will gain confidence in the fact that He forgives us when we fail. Knowing this, is what trust/belief/faith are all about!
Sin may occasionally, weakens our faith because Satan continues to lie to us. But God will not let us slip from His hand.

I've only included 3 sermons at first but there's actually 6 related to the whole topic assurance of salvation is rejected by roman catholics

It's a very in depth study from the speaker from questions raised by students, but it's also about his teaching for the examinations,.people looking to gain a PhD or thd in theology.

Here the first video which fully explains why we need assurance of salvation, this is the second video, there is one before it, the ones I posted where the 3rd the 5th and 6th.

The phrase "in the faith" is not the same as "in Christ". To be "in the faith" is a believer whose state matches their standing in Christ.

No, it says,"in faith" in the Greek.
And no, the word believer is a mistranslation.

I'll stick with the KJV.

Examining ourselves to make sure we are"in faith"

"In faith" is still not in Christ. The passage is not referring to one's salvation, but walk.

key points to the sermon we are commanded to seek assurance by God, so that we know we have grace before we die, and it's important to know now, because it's important to know if where numbered amongst the elect , , his word tells us we are to diligently to make our election and calling sure. We do that by staying in his word loving his son, and when we are justified by faith we are actually justified by Christ. Works are result of his works.

We are to seek assurance so that we bare fruit, and not seek assurance on how we perform by our fruit, as that would be a slippery assurance.

Knowing that we have assurance is commanded by God, however Roman catholics and Arminianism reject this, on slippery reasoning
