Not exactly. Countries balance their trade with us by buying US treasuries, that is why no one has made a big fuss until now. Just recently they stopped buying US treasuries. So Trump has let them know, if you aren't going to buy our treasuries then we will have balanced trade. This is why the response to his announcement is that everyone started buying US Treasuries.

And we sell our oil to the USA at a discounted rate.
As well, Alberta mostly produces crude heavy oil and the USA is mostly set up to handle this crude oil.
The USA wants us to pay more for NATO, protection fine that is not about trade then, that is about something else.
