Didn't see the show, however, while the Electoral College folks do cast the actual votes that validate the election of our President; they are sworn to vote as the Popular Vote of the State they represent dictates. In some States, whichever Candidate wins the majority of the popular votes, they receive ALL of the Electoral College votes. In other States, the Electoral College vote is broken down by the percent of the popular vote for their State.
Historically, there has been only one Election where the Electoral College folks did not vote as the popular vote of their State dictated.........you can do a search on this to learn of this event and the impact it had on the General Election.
