On another forum I spoke to the issue of Imputation, and was asked if I just expect Christ to do everything for me, or do I actually "do something" to be a Christian?

It's not just the 10 commandments, the entire bible is replete with requirements. Do this dont do that and you are expected to obey. (and why wouldn't you?)

Romans 12:2
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God..../KJV

2nd Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth..../KJV

So you can not conform to the world, but are instructed to be ye (You!) transformed by the renewing of your mind. You do that by reading and studying the word of God. And it thru study that your mind is renewed and transformed and your heart and spirit too.

If you obey then you are rewarded. If you disobey you stunt spiritual growth. Those passages above, they read like commandments. But the cool thing is, while you are reading your Bible, your Bible is reading you! (John 14:26) He will lead us into all truth, teach us all things and all truth and bring to remembrance what the Lord's word has said. And I doubt the Holy Spirit can bring something to your remembrance that you have never read or studied before, am I right? We do have to be the data entry clerks. Input info into brain and heart. Then it can be brought to remembrance!

I think it's sort of like joining the Military. We get boot camp first and then some sort of regular duty. and you can't say no to the drill Sergeant! Which would be going against your own conscience. You see our conscience is a part of our spirit and the HS bears witness directly to our spirit so our spirit (conscience) always knows what is the right thing to do here? So never go against your conscience! When you go against what your conscience is telling you to do, it hardens your heart towards God. Not good.

Our conscience tells us when we are wrong and when we have done well, and that feels good. I know that my righteousness is like filthy rags but the intent of my heart does not waver, as much as it used to. So there's lots to do in the Service of God and His Kingdom. We come in a buck private's. Now we get to be all that we can be and for God.

In Matthew 6:5-6
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly..../KJV

See how this is worded? Not, if you pray, but, when you pray. The Lord expects us to pray. Pray unceasingly, you have not because you ask not! That is very clear. How not to do it, and how to do it right!

Whoa! Right below the prayer scripture...

Matthew 6:16-18
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly..../KJV

That reads like a commandment. Same thing as prayer too, not if you fast, but when you fast, so the Lord expects us to fast for Him. How not to do it, how to do it right.
