How strict is the service ending time?

  • We get out punctually at ____________. If the preacher isn't done, the sound man kills his mic.

  • We usually get out at ____________ but sometimes we go over.

  • We start punctually but we get done whenever we get done.

  • We might start on time, we might end whenever... who knows?

I've seen different churches handle end-of-service time different ways, so I thought I might start a poll. Does your church have a definite time when y'all are supposed to get out? If it does, how strict is it? What happens if they run into overtime? What might be legitimate grounds for extending service time? Baptism? Missionary?

Also, if you do have a set time to get out on Sunday morning, do you also have a set time for Sunday night/Wednesday night/whatever other services? Or is it ONLY Sunday morning service that has a set end-point?


Our church is Pentecostal and we get out whenever we get out. We aren't too concerned with beating the Baptists to the restaurant - it's a small town, there will still be tables for us when we get there. :cool:

I don't think that we have an "official" end time other than an official order of service (only accessible by staff, AV and worship teams) that shows approximate times for each entry (song, prayer, sermon, etc). Obviously if someone is giving a testimony or a visiting missionary is sharing those times may run over.

Our main campus can be pretty flexible for overall service time however second campus (a two year old plant) that I attend has to be more rigid because we have a set time that we have to be packed up and out of the school that we meet in.

We don't have set times when to end, which is usually great. We do start at the same time everyday. I love when it flows and typically don't mind if it goes longer, but we always cringe when our elders say, "we're going to close with..." because that means it's going to be forever. Today that happend 3 times. Our Wednesday night meetings are very laid back, but are still flexible with times.

My home church always started on time. But we didn’t have an official time to end service. Just an “idea” of when service will end lol.

At my current local fellowship, Sunday morning service usually ends at 11:30 am. This was new to me when I first attended since I grew up in a Spanish Pentecostal church lol.

We start on time and rarely go over 1-1/2 hours. The end time is variable within about ten to fifteen minutes; it may be a little shorter or longer than the 90-minute schedule.
