You are a contestant on a game show. There are three curtains. Behind one of the curtains is a new car. You are asked to choose one of the curtains. Lets say that you choose curtain #1. The host of the show - who knows where the car is so as not to end the game prematurely - opens curtain #3 and there is no car behind it. The host now gives you a choice. You can stay with curtain #1 or you can change your choice to curtain #2. The question now is: would it be to your advantage to stay with curtain #1, or would it be to your advantage to change to curtain #2 or would there be no advantage either way?

Change to curtain number two, then you have a 66% chance of winning... keep on curtain number 1 and you only have a 33% chance of winning...

:p

What would you do if before any curtain was opened, the host told you that you could stay with #1 or switch to BOTH #2 and #3?

Might there be any other reason for not switching to curtain #2?

Stick with #1. It was stated ''The host of the show - who knows where the car is so as not to end the game prematurely - "

Which means it was most likely behind #1.

If it was behind #2 he wouldn't have had to make the move to open #3.

This is not true. At this point all you know is that it is not behind #3. That leaves either #1 or #2. So it is a 50/50% chance with either one. But due to the above events..."The host of the show - who knows where the car is so as not to end the game prematurely..opened door #3" - ... it tips the odds to Door #1!!!

crossnote,

re: "Stick with #1. It was stated ''The host of the show - who knows where the car is so as not to end the game prematurely - ' Which means it was most likely behind #1."

Saying that the host of the show knows where the car is located is intended to mean that he won't be taking a chance in trying to open a curtain without the car.

re: "If it was behind #2 he wouldn't have had to make the move to open #3."

The OP doesn't say that he HAD to open curtain #3. If the car was behind curtain #1 he could have opened either 2 or 3.

The 'Final Curtain' is all that matters to me. (Matthew 6:20)

Anyone agree with crossnote?
