This insight will be both long winded and concise. Concise: Life is purposeless without God. Long winded: Don't get me wrong, I did grow up in church. At the same time I cannot count how many times I have ran away from a relationship with God in my life. Every time though, no matter how hard I try, I keep running back. Whether it be my own will or with His influence, I do not know or care. Here's what I found though every time I run away. It goes like this: I run away, I see something in this world that I want and I run to it and away from God. I seek that "purpose" and make it the center of my life. I do it for long enough and end up finding out that it is not fulfilling, I think, "There must be something else! Something that will actually give me purpose this time." I look for another "purpose," and the cycle repeats. Soon enough I hit rock bottom, I look up and see Jesus next to me lifting me up and showing me Him. That's where I am now, having Him be the center of my life. Another way to say all of this is that I have tried searching this world for purpose, but every time I search I end up empty because of the fact that nothing in this world will give me a true purpose for living. The only true purpose for living must be not of this world, and that is purpose is Jesus. Like Jesus said to the Samaritan women in John 4, "Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give will never thirst; the water that I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." Jesus is the incomplete project because He is an unending wilderness of knowledge and life, meaning purpose.

What do you mean by "incomplete project"?

What do you mean by, God gives us purpose? Do you mean something like, purpose to live to next day, or something more like God gives us direction on how to live?

God gives us direction on small matters and big matters. As Christians everyone basically has the same general purpose, as in how we should live and what we should aim for in life. Our purpose is actually quite simple which is to delve more into our relationship with Christ and tell others about Christ. The fruits of doing that will guide how we live day to day. God also may give us special talents or guide us toward certain interests, and I believe we should pursue that also. If you are naturally gifted in something I believe that is a gift from God. I think sometimes Christians do not pursue their natural gifts or interests because this is not related to salvation, which I actually think is a big loss.

Is not man's purpose to glorify God and enjoy Him forever?

If we are not seeking that pursuit but other pursuits, surely we are missing the mark.

I'm confused when you say "purpose." Are you running to a fancy car? Because no that's not your purpose.

But you can search for purpose and have God. I highly recommend it. Of course God will be there when you fail and fall. But did you ever consider the voice telling you to do this or that is from God? Obviously not if it's a sin.

Phillipians 2:13- "for it is God which worketh in you both to will & to do of His good pleasure". ry serving the elderly & handicapped. i did that for 37 years ( & then some ), & it's one of the greatest joys of my life. are you a born again christian believer? if not, that's totally, where to start! yes, Jesus is the top purpose to live for, always. well, you certainly possess wisdom in some of your posting. have a "sit-down" conversation with Jesus for a long while & you'll receive some answers. but also cogitate on your thoughts, interests & desires & see if they are obviating you from Jesus like fulfillment & joy. blessings to you.

I have no clue, I'm still a little emotional from the front end loader I thought was going to run me down this morning. Fortunately I tripped and fell, he stopped when he saw my legs.

I don't know whether this is wonderfully terrible or terribly wonderful. It might be both!

Jesus offers this water, and He said, "whoever drinks..." So, then, how hard should it be for me to take a drink of water? and where do I get this water so that I can, just, ...drink it? The Samaritan woman asked that question and Jesus told her to go call her husband...and afterwards she ran through the streets telling everyone about having met a man that knew her (gushing springs of living water).
She must of drank. It's inconclusive, to me, to say that she drank when she has said, "Sir, I see that you are a prophet" as I'm surer that she drank of the living water when Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am He."
She believed then."
Similarly, being asked to question of how to do the work of God, Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the [One] He has sent."
Naturally, it takes work to reach a purpose, and it takes a lot of discipline to work but, how do we work spiritually? As Jesus had said, to the Samaritan woman at the well, "But a time ... has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth... God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth," which is "neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem." So then, do we need to go either here or there to worship Him. And where do we need to go to believe?

1Thess 5: 18 says, "Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus"

Depends on what you think of me and how much you either like me or hate me lol
It only depends on what HE thinks of you, and keeping with the thought of this thread, it looks like He saved you for a purpose. I imagine your first thought, after realizing you were still living, was,
"Thank You, Jesus!" And, if so, then it is my opinion that you fulfilled your purpose in that moment and will continue doing so in every moment that He keeps you! :D

Jesus' words from John 7:37-38 and John 4:14 If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said: ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.' But this He spoke of the Spirit. Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life.
