It’s specifically about Jesus being the one god sent and his testimony
“Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”
John 6:29 KJV
some try to take that single verse and eliminate the rest of his word which is of course a bad idea
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, ( the one we need to believe in ) He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
John 5:24
many try to avoid his word and say “ I believe “ even though they are avoiding his promise of everlasting life when they reject his word
“He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:
and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

many want to “ believe “ Jesus existed and did what the Bible says he did but they also want to reject everything he said about eternal life and death
After a person believes in Jesus he doesn’t stop speaking
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:31-32 KJV
why would a “believer” want to avoid things promising freedom and everlasting life ?
the point is Jesus is the one sent by God who we have to accept
