It could be the proper site does not matter, is till, even if Saudi Arabia is ok with the Temple Mount, do not think Iran and other Middle East nations would agree, to the Palestinians it would be an outrage, the world would get involved most likely
The chosen ones will do as they are required to fulfill God's Law, when the Sanhedrin gives the ok they will build. The Temple Institute has been working toward this goal since the 60's or 70's
Here is the erroneous three main sites on the so-called Temple Mount, that the Jews have been arguing about over the YEARS.

So the TEMPLE Priests HAVE to be Sanctified by bathing in asses of the Red Heifer blood, mixed in with lots of water, before they can enter into the Temple Building site, to supervise the Building of the Third Temple. See that Tan area in the top picture, that is almost all the graves, but it goes around the far side, too. You cannot have the Priests cross any Palestian's land or they would also be re-defiled. So you cannot have them come in from the NORTH.

This is just a thought , but could the new temple be made like the Tabernacle in the days of Moses ? , would it have to built by stones and not material ?
I mean , building it another way , not by stones would make it a lot easier , just a genuine thought...

YES, they can use the Tabernacle on the Mount of Olives temporarily while the Temple is being Built. But it has to be built by the specifications that GOD had inspired Solomon, 2 Chronicles 3 & 4.
I believe that GOD HAD INSPIRED HIM TO BUILD IT exactly like he built it.
Here is a Hint that GOD had inspired Solomon.

7 He made the 10 gold lampstands according to their specifications and put them in the sanctuary, five on the right and five on the left.

There is GOD giving SOLOMON the direction to build the TEMPLE and its courtyards, which is GOD'S WAY.
There is a second floor that has a stairs going up to the roof for the TRUMPETERS.
Now the JEWS know that Solomon did build the TEMPLE GOD's Way. Therefore, they will also believe the Holy Spirit will do the same for modern day Builders. So the TEMPLE, will be BUILT. However, HE intends Scripture to be FULFILLED IN IT.

VCO, what's wrong with #2? I recall reading recently (unfortunately I can't recall where right now) that it holds promise of being the actual site of Herod's Temple.
In the article you linked to it says: "the Temple Mount has, in fact, no significance to Islam, a claim that is becoming more prominent in Saudi Arabian social discourse." What? The temple mount has no significance to Islam?
I quoted site that claims an increased number of Saudi's now say the Al-Aqsa Mosque and that portion of the Temple Mount, hold little importance to Muslims. Palestinians is a WHOLE DIFFERANT BALL GAME. They are more radical than the average Muslim.
