That was the last generation of people from the Bill Gates era having any influence in the design and deployment of Windows.
After that, Millenials moved in and now we get a Mac interface Start Menu on Windows because they have no creativity.
These are the end times !
For verily in the last days shall come boredom and bland sameness across all platforms. And all interfaces shall be made as one.

Nope, can't find in the Bible where boredom and blandness is a sign of the last days. :p

But hey, for those NOT wanting the end of the world this is encouraging! It means these are NOT the last days! :D :D :D

Not sure where to ask this, but here seems good enough

Several months ago this started popping up whenever I turn my laptop on:

I always just hit F1 and go about with no problems.

If I hit F2 it brings up this:

IMG_0093.jpg

The problem I am having is that I can't find anywhere in these lists that references (to my limited understanding) enabling TPM.

I need to make this laptop work for turbotax.
Dell Latitude intel Core i5 7th gen.
I bought it refurbished from a computer shop (which is no longer in business due to health issues but the guy said the store # is his cell #, so I might have to see if I can find the receipt and see if I can reach him still).
He told me it already had Windows 11 and I've seen it pop up before.

Last night while clicking around I did see it (somewhere) say I have windows 11, and TPM 2.0

My husbands laptop isn't supporting it at all, so after finding that info, I figured out how to set up an account for him to use on my laptop (add user) YEA ME! (I'm not very tech savvy, so that was a big deal for me  )

Then this morning, I asked google if turbotax will work when it says "TPM not detected" and it told me 'no, it will not work'

o_Oo_Oo_O Now I am so confused and don't know what to do. Already bought and opened the non-returnable turbotax stuff.

Hey @Godsgirl1983 the laptop will still work but your TPM chip is fried. And Turbotax will still work unless they've come up with some requirement for the TPM chip or laptop encryption.
What's a TPM chip? It's basically a secure chip which windows uses to encrypt your hard drive.
Why would you want to encrypt your hard drive? In case you lose your laptop and you have sensitive information in there like social security numbers and bank accounts stored in text files or word documents. Someone can take the hard drive out of your laptop and read the data if it's unencrypted.
If your laptop is at home and with you all the time, you don't have to worry about this or the TPM chip.

But the fact that the TPM chip failed it means that this laptop might have another failure down the line.
Besides the annoying aspect that you have to hit F1, Windows might complain too so you might have to turn encryption off.

So i guess if you need to use this laptop do to your taxes, it will still work, unless like i said TurboTax has some requirements for encryption. So let me know what TurboTax says when you start the program.

return turbotax, try HR block. I am using windows 7. Open Comupters, C drive right mouse button properties, tools, click Hard Drive errors, then degrag.

Eli already covered what you need to know.

All I have to add is that your problem is not a Windows problem. It is a hardware problem. And the screen you get when you hit f2 is your computer bios screen. That's the underlying framework of your computer. When you hit the power button it wakes up first and looks around for something to run. On your computer it finds windows and wakes windows up.

Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0. and TurboTax requires window 11. It won't run on 10. But if Windows 11 is already installed, you should be good to go.

A quick search tells me that TurboTax installed and TurboTax online have different pricing structures. The license is not transferrable. If it won't install, you will need to get a refund and then purchase the online version.
