Attorney General Letitia James Issues Statement on Donald Trump’s Weaponization of the Department of Justice
October 9, 2025
NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James today issued the following statement after she was indicted by the U.S. Attorney’s office of the Eastern District of Virginia.
“This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system. He is forcing federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding, all because I did my job as the New York State Attorney General."
Letitia James ran on a platform that she would weaponize her position as NY State Attorney General against Donald Trump. This may be a response, which can be called a continuation, of the prosecution of Peter Navarro who went to prison, and Steve Bannon went to prison and Mike Lindell was sued, and Donald Trump dealt with prosecution in NY, Georgia, and raids in Florida. It is reasonable to be concerned by what is taking place, are we in a civil war? Are we moving towards martial law?
“These charges are baseless, and the president’s own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost. The president’s actions are a grave violation of our Constitutional order and have drawn sharp criticism from members of both parties.
Baseless would indicate there is no factual evidence of a crime. On the contrary I have heard from independent legal analysis that there is clear cut documented evidence of at least one crime if not several. Her only defense is to say that she is a political target. However, according to the legal analysis I heard judges do not like to hear that argument when there is clear evidence of a crime and there is.
“His decision to fire a United States Attorney who refused to bring charges against me – and replace them with someone who is blindly loyal not to the law, but to the president – is antithetical to the bedrock principles of our country. This is the time for leaders on both sides of the aisle to speak out against this blatant perversion of our system of justice.
Again, this is just pure hypocrisy for her to be saying that a person got their job because they would prosecute her. After all her whole campaign to get this job was that she would go after Donald Trump.
“I stand strongly behind my office’s litigation against the Trump Organization. We conducted a two-year investigation based on the facts and evidence – not politics. Judges have upheld the trial court’s finding that Donald Trump, his company, and his two sons are liable for fraud.
I doubt many see it the same way. The banks did not consider that they had been harmed, they were paid back in full and wanted to continue doing business with Trump. If you are going to sue someone you must prove two things and one of them is that someone was harmed. No one was ever harmed. However, in her case it is easy to prove that taxpayers were harmed.
“I am a proud woman of faith, and I know that faith and fear cannot share the same space. And so today I am not fearful, I am fearless, and as my faith teaches me, no weapon formed against me shall prosper. We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights. And I will continue to do my job.”
Pride goes before a fall. Peter said that none of us proclaiming to be "people of faith" should be caught up in criminal activity. This is shameful to me that she wants to play the "woman of faith" card. If you are a woman of faith and want to quote scriptures I would suggest "as you have done it will be done to you" and "with what measure you measure it will be measured to you".
In my opinion NY State needs an independent assessment of this case. They need to decide if she is in fact guilty or if this is political persecution. If it is political I agree they should stand with her. If they conclude she is guilty they need to force her to resign before she is convicted. NY taxpayers should not help pay for her defense. Nor should she be allowed to use this platform as the NY DA to sell her snake oil of "someone being persecuted by powerful politicians"
