Even in a famine you can grow lettuce in your back yard and will be available locally. Dandelions are edible. You can eat the entire plant. What you need to have is beans and rice.

We bid on a side of beef and lost.

Many people recognize 6 months from now steaks will be $40 a pound.
Do you have a packing house (major meat processing plant) nearby?

If you are willing to break down and butcher your own meat...
(It is a lot of work) you probably can purchase un-butchered meat called swinging beef.
Beef are cut into 6 sections (termed quarters) and then butchered. The loin isn't ever put on a hook but whatever eh?
The hook weighs an exact 5lbs....not sure what they weigh in the metric system exactly...but something of a round number.
But swinging beef is much cheaper than butchered meat. If you buy the three that make a half.... you can pay market price...no auction....just straight weight and price/lb kg.
You have to haul it. Pick up and hauling are all on you. (Bring your big boy muscles)
Meaning you need bone saws, meat grinders, plastic bags and freezer paper and labels. Maybe even some twine to tie it up.

But you get all the cuts...all the work too. And you have to MOVE quick to get it all in the freezer before it begins to get warm.

I can get a whole hog and it will dress out it runs costing around $1/lb-$2/lb.

But like I said....it's a LOT of work. Curing bacon and hams and cutting it up and wrapping it.. lots of work. Then there's all the garbage leftovers you can either utilize (more work) or discard...

A year ago I bought 2 15lb bags of rice just in case. I still have one whole 15lb bag of rice taking up space in my pantry. I'm tempted to buy another one, but I only have so much space for rice that I may or may not use. So hopefully that one bag, along with the several little bags of beans I have, will be enough!

I just found a bag of brown rice with a tiny moth critter in it.
Should have kept it in the freezer, so much stuff has tiny eggs in it.

Wow, so your rice comes with protein in it! You don't even need the beans.

Sadly, I possess NONE of those skills.

But I’m actually on my way to BJs club right now. Each time I go, I buy and freeze extra meat. Mostly chop meat as that is the cheapest and easiest way to store it.

We bid with 3 other families at a 4h event. They were going to butcher and process the meat for us.

We have a ton of rice. Our thought process is if it nears the expiration date we would simply donate that and the pasta, and anything else we stocked up on.

We are trying to be diligent about FIFO. First in, first out

Is there any such thing as a healthy pasta? I am avoiding carbohydrates when possible.
I have been finding 10 lb bags of chicken hindquarters cheap and enjoy skinning them, brining them, then cooking them, and storing the meat, takes little space and is a great way to make my awesome chicken and noodles.

If we want to be silly about this save a jar of peanut butter learn to make figure 4 traps for ground squirrels.Just a little on a stick their pull the stick and the weight will fall on them.theirs enough meat on them. for protein.
The rabies a lot of squirrels carry is a bit problematic though.

not aware of a rabies problem in squirrels around here, rabies makes animals act really wierd, lose their fear of man, should be easy to avoid such.

Sure, when you are extremely malnourished and on the brink of starvation they are quite healthy.

lemon and tartar sauce neutralize mercury, a heavy metal? Not aware of that.
Shrimp, herring are a couple of types that are very low in mercury, from what i hear.

Let me know if you find some healthy pasta! I would live off the stuff if my hips could handle all the extra weight.

Squid game -- people buried in debt play this game, if you win you are out of debt if you lose you die. This is a game that all these countries are playing. Everyone who loaned money to these companies will not get paid, does that mean they also will declare bankruptcy?

82% of AA+ rated bonds in China defaulted!

The ratings were a lie, the supposedly solid investment bonds are junk.

Total debt in China is 270% of GDP
