I hear what you're saying. Even if you had enough for about four weeks it wouldn't cost that much and not much room needed for storage. If there came a supply collapse some things might be re-supplied after a few short weeks. A collapse doesn't have to mean it'll last for long, long periods of time. And it many only be some things you couldn't get.

Also of end time type movies are adventurous to watch but the idea of running out to the wilderness seeking to survive would be a lot more difficult then people can imagine.

It has been said several places and times that if the electricity were to go out in the U.S. 80% would be gone in 30 days

That is nuts, I have lived in the woods for 30 days several times without electricity. I suppose the big issues would be clean water and the riots that take place in cities during blackouts. If we had a blackout I'd leave the city immediately and head to the hills where there is relatively clean water. All you really need are three things: matches, a knife and plenty of string.

If you want to be a little more comfortable I'd bring a good pot, a hatchet, and a nice fishing rod.

Still in a pinch you can boil water in paper cups.
 
Not nuts, look at the mayhem in our mega cities without the added stress of inconvenience. You are not the average American citizen, few here are.

The lack of clean water, food, and transportation would do it. Nevermind medicines and heat. The forests would be gone in that 30 days too.

30 days without food would not kill me. I have already consumed a 30 day reserve. However, the lack of water would be a bummer. Don't know how lack of transportation would kill that many. What do you mean the forests would be gone?

If people are going to die because they don't have electricity there is no way they are going to chop down hard wood trees. In fact thinking about it, chopping down a tree by one of these nubes is probably what would kill them and their ten friends who the tree lands on.

Not everybody lives in an area that gets cold enough to kill someone during the winter especially in their own homes. Whether you can survive out in the woods depends on many things and your skills are the most important but, the same weather that can kill people in their own homes has a much better chance of killing someone trying to live out in the open.
Now if you have a bugout shelter already prepared then you would be ahead of the game unless someone else knows about it and beats you to it.

It is easy to build a shelter if you have a knife and string. If you have a hatchet you can make it better. If you have some plastic sheeting you can make it even better.

Never believed in throwing away a tool. It is much better off in my hand and control.
Lucy- you are in the "old country", what would you do in case of turmoil, would you, could you be guided to get away somewhere to a place of refuge?

Good point, a shovel is a great thing to have in the woods.

I loved watching the show where they dumped people out in wilderness areas and then said they they had to survive until the last one tapped out or were tapped out by them.

And the thing that I noticed was that the winners did a lot of things right but still didn't get the clue. Food/water gathering and hunting was supposed to be immediate and ongoing. Never was supposed to ever stop or slow down. And every last one of them were sitting there literally starving with the food on camera. Not a one of them chose a spiel as one of the ten things. And it's the easiest and best form of carbohydrates. They all were focused on building wonderful four season shelters or chairs or traps and tables...and they literally worked themselves to death instead of working diligently on food gathering and hunting like the devil was after them.... because it literally was.

Snares work until the other predators find them. Traps work until the other predators find them. Hunting works if you can actually find and get close to the game.

Fires are great at keeping predators away... unless they are human.
 
My emergency list.

Short term supplies include 22 rifle, plenty of ammo, a crossbow and arrows, means of starting a fire, 50 pounds of dry beans, 50 pounds of rice, shovel, 10 pounds of salt, and a source of water. Also should have several large tarps and a couple of tents. A 25 pound bag of assorted seeds is also a plus. Add a couple of 55 gal barrels for storage.

You forgot about a means to carry it all. 150lbs is a LOT of weight. Pickup truck or pack horses are nice...but they need food too.

I forgot 200 foot of heavy duty cord.

For transportation to your escape area, you'll have the fuel in your vehicles. Always refill before they get below half a tank.
 
Did you hear Obama -- "Fake outrage at fake problems".

Your grocery store is out of meat, that is a fake problem. Your car failed inspection until you get new tires but the tires will take 6 months to 2 years to arrive, that is a fake problem. You don't like your 1st grader being taught they are a racist, that is a fake problem. You outraged that your junior HS daughter got raped in the bathroom by a transgender male, that is fake outrage. Your son died in Afghanistan, just more fake problems. Gas prices double and now you can't afford your medicine, fake outrage.

It is amazing how these superior woke people are great at condemning the little people for their fake outrage and fake problems.
