Actually, if you were a Jewish slave you had to be offered your freedom after a period of time. If your master was good and kind you might have chosen not to go. Then you became their bondslave, servant to your master for life on the proviso that your master care for you and your family respectfully. So not all slaves (or slave owners) led the same lives. And oh, bondslave is how God wants us to be with Him. I am His slave and I know He treats me far better than I deserve.I have to believe all slavery across space and time has been pretty much equal regarding the overall treatment of slaves. Don't fall prey to revisionist propaganda that American slaves were treated more harshly than other slaves.
Also, women in America, though 2nd class citizens back in the day, we're always treated better than women of the biblical era.
