Do you refer to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as Lord or do you call one or the other Lord, but only call the others a different title?

2 Corinthians 6:18 NIV
18 “I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”

Luke 10:21 NIV
21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth..."

1 Corinthians 12:3 NIV
3 ...no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:17,18 NIV
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate a the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Counselor and Comforter are the two primary names.

Of course, Isaiah 9:6 tells us Jesus Yeshi Yah is called these and many more. The list is very long for all the names of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, but most know this well already.

Nice list, thanks, but it is incomplete.

It doesn’t include 2 Corinthians 3:17,18 which calls the Holy Spirit the Lord.

It referenced 1 Thessalonians 3:5 as a verse that calls the Holy Spirit the Lord, but that verse doesn’t say that. It’s actually 2 Thessalonians 3:5. Just FYI in case that’s your website and you want to update it. It doesn’t clearly say the Holy Spirit is Lord either, it has to be deduced from the context.

Nice Thread. I believe the Three Persons who appeared to Abraham, as One Lord, were also the Three Persons of the Trinity. In Gen 18, it says the Lord appeared - and then immediately Three Men appear. Who can they be? None other than the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The Three Persons are called as the Lord. They are One Lord and One God. As 1 Jn 5:7 (KJV) puts it, the Father, His Word, His Spirit are One.

Gen 18, KJV:

"1And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, 3And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:"

1 Jn 5:7, KJV:

7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

One what? One God and One Lord. So we see the Three Persons, as shown in both OT and NT, are One Lord God.

When I pray, I do say Lord(The trinity). Or I will pray to the Father or Jesus. I have never prayed directly to Holy Spirit though(or from what I can recall)

There are plenty of people who call Jesus lord who have not recieved the holy spirit.

If Paul only knew.

I may be off-base, but here's how I see it:

"God" refers to His divine aseity (or self-existence).
"Lord" refers to His sovereignty and rulership.

Both are true of Him (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

When I'm before Him, this is how I talk to Him/Them.
In my mind, or in the Spirit, to my left is Yeshua. I call Him that, or Lord, or King.
To my right is Holy Spirit. I call Him that, or Ruach. Though I have no problem calling Him Lord, I seldom do.
In the middle and set back a bit is Father. I call Him that, Lord, Abba, or Hashem. Or Yahweh.
I like to refer to the Lord as Yahweh-Elohim. To me, that says it all.
Mainly I call Him Lord. Or God. In my mind...
Yeshua calls me Ron.
Ruach calls me friend.
Abba calls me son. If I'm really hurting, He calls me son child. He's good like that.

He's your God too, and wants a unique, intimate relationship with each one of us. Don't be afraid of Him.
He's our Daddy. He loves us dearly.

The Bible has "the Lord Jesus Christ", "God the Father", and "the Holy Spirit" or "the Holy Ghost". So "Lord" is mostly used for Christ, following His resurrection and ascension. It was after His resurrection that Peter said that God had made Him both Lord and Christ.

this verse always confuses me as well. in light of what Jesus also said: "many tell me Lord Lord"
