Wondering what “The Annual CC Picnic’ can be.
Heavenly Recipes manages the catering.
The formal attire reads, “This T-Shirt Came Here and All it Got Was a CC.” Who’s good with color schemes? Share something.
This party snack is a lot to chew on, so a nourishing string [bean] chat is in order.

I was wondering if I could ask a quick question. I noticed in your profile that you said you are a self-taught aviator? That sounds awesome!

Many years ago, I had a boss who was telling us about his son, who was in school to be a pilot -- but racking up $250,000 worth of student loans in the process. Additionally, he was hoping to get a job with JetBlue, but no one wanted to hire him because he lacked experiential flying hours. (Sorry if I'm butchering all the terminology, but I've only been a passenger and don't know anything about aviation schooling.)

May I ask, what was the route you took, and what would you recommend as a more affordable path?

How does one begin, and where does one look, to learn everything they need on their own, and pass the qualifications and credentials?

It was 1978. There were several of us. We began with Quicksilver hang gliders along with Soarmaster powerplants. Today , these are only found in museums and garage attics. Later, Quicksilvers were refashioned to begin the more user-friendly ultralight industry. Ultralights continue and also brought about the FCC light sport category. Only a valid motor vehicle license qualifies. Through the years, I’ve gone from foot launching to left seat in my Kitfox Model 4. Fun Flying only and inexpensive costs. Flying out for fifty dollar hamburgers give way now to the fifty dollar steaks are out there!

Thanks very much for your reply, especially the pictures!! Wow! It looks like an amazing time.

I had a chance to ride (as a passenger, of course) in a WWII plane a few years ago and it was an unforgettable experience.

It was also astonishing to see planes up close that used fabric on their wings!!! (As an amateur sewer, I was astounded that any fabric could be that sturdy.)

I'm looking forward to reading more about your stories in the threads.
