Hello all,

please read this following scenario and give your responses on what you think would be best.

A man decides to one day visit a grocery store, when approaching the store the man realizes he needs a coin to release the use of a store trolley. however the man has no money in his pockets to rent a trolley.

When the man gets to the store and approaches the trolley bay there is already a trolley left abandoned by someone with a coin still inside it. So the man takes the trolley does all his shopping and when finished returns the trolley back to the trolley bay.

Say if God put this trolley here for this man to use, would it be a blessing for the man to take the £1 as he thinks it was put there by God for him. or would it be better to leave the trolley with money inside it in the hope of blessing someone else?

all thoughts welcome.

Many years ago I lived in a City where this concept was used by Grocery Stores. If I found a cart with a quarter already in it, I would use it, and when through, leave it in the cart slot for someone else.........

As well, if I had to pay, I would do so, and then when leaving, someone would usually give me a quarter and take my cart.

I found the people I met this way were quite courteous.........and it saves on labor costs for the Store...........

I need to travel more. You really have to pay in order to use a shopping cart? I have never seen that in my life.

About your question, I would say leave the money so the next person can also share in this blessing. Pay it forward:)

I traveled to Canada a couple of years ago to visit a friend. We did go grocery shopping and I do not remember having to pay to rent a cart. All of this is new to me.

I haven't been to the ice hotel either.

It was very cold when we went to Quebec City, though...

hope this helps you all, the slot releases the trolley once the coin has been inserted.
you do get the money back once the trolley has been returned to the bay.

Hello MrMike85
If i came up to a cart that was already paid for;i would do the same thing toska would do.
I didn't know they had carts that you have to pay to use.

If they started that here,i don't think people would accept it.

This is a simple thing to answer by finding out what the law says about it. To violate the law of man is to sin regardless of our opinions or self justifications.

I was shopping at wal-mart yesterday and the carts were in bad shape and i was thinking -this is wal-mart,why are these carts hard to push.

If paying to use the carts means they will keep the carts in good working condition, then i would be for paying to use the carts.

Haha, in Europe it is necessary, if it wouldn’t be like that, we wouldn’t have any trolleys left…. If is something free and not chained it belongs to homeless or thiefs, it's screaming at them: take me ..

Although, it is free you know, you not paying for using trolley, it is just short term rent, with 100% refund, lol, u just have to insert a coin and after purchase you pull it out, so it is not really paying
So I understand Mike’s dilemma, because if you left there coin, it is sometimes same as offering trolley to thief (or homeless .. they will take those trolleys with joy), maybe rather wait for someone … another shopper to hand it over …

Well it would be better to leave the trolly with money in it when he left, but you said he did not have money to rent a trolly in the first place.

I loved it there and cannot wait to go again. If you ever get to go, make sure you try the poutine. It is delicious:) And, keep a count of how many times people say "eh". I cannot remember the number of times I heard that. I even bought a t-shirt with 'Who Says Girls Can't Fish, eh?' on it.

Thank you for the visual. I would probably look like a lost puppy if they started doing that here:)

It is ever so sad that the heart of God does not shine forth enough that it forces the homeless to practice theft, regardless, theft is sin.

hmm saying that i think if i was homeless with a family to feed that was starving, i would probably steal in order to feed them.
even though i know it's wrong i'd want to provide for my family.

we're quite blessed to have the things that we do, so we're far from the greater temptation people have who own nothing.

well, I tell you what homeless do with pushcarts, they disassemble it and take into collecting scrap (I dont know the En word, that place, where you can take paper and scrap iron and stuff and they will pay you for that (they're weighed it and pay I dont know how much .. it is on kilos)
So if we just left there trolleys, I am sure, that for about month we wouldn't have any trolleys left there
Not that I would not wish for the homeless better life and free money and ..
but if we speaking here about thievery ... well then
But what would I do is another question ..I would for sure left trolley there with coin
be blessed
