I have the best family. My father-in-law gave me another fantastic gift- his grandmother’s cedar chest and her silver. He gave them to Me, and not my husband, because- “I know you’ll put your heart and soul into taking care of them”.
That really moved me. My father-in-law is a cop, his father was one too before being killed during a routine traffic stop. And this cedar chest belonged to his mother, about whom I’ve heard dozens of stories from my husband and his parents; she was a wonderful woman, and I’ve often felt sad that she passed away a few years before I married into her family so I never got to meet her. She was well-loved by my father-in-law, maybe especially because she was the only real link he had to a father he never really got to know. So for him to give me these items that belonged to her...well. I think maybe he’s accepted me finally.
He said he doesn’t mind if I refinish it- but I can’t imagine doing anything but restoring the top. It’s in amazing shape and the inside is beautiful. I’m kind of terrified I’ll ruin it.
And now that I have spent my evening being sappy and sentimental in between trying to watch HGTV but mostly pausing shows for half an hour at a time...it’s probably time for bed but I doubt I’ll make it there before 2 a.m.

My heart is heavy today for a few reasons, and since the roads are icy and I'm not going anywhere, I'm trying to pray through it.
Its tough though. It's sometimes easy to see why people who aren't Christians behave the way they do and basically abandon love at times. It can be exhausting.

On another note!! I haven't regularly used this site in years but I recognize MissCris as a regular member from a few years back. Its nice to see a name I recognize even if you don't remember me lol
Here's hoping the road conditions improve.

I have this terrible cat. Well, four terrible cats, but this one is the worst. Her name is Izzy and she once made me wear a dead bird on my foot.
Every time I eat cereal, she hovers. She sits behind my head on the back of the couch, just waiting, watching, lurking around. She can hold it together pretty well through most of the bowl, but when I get to the last couple of bites and she hears the spoon clink against the bowl, she goes on high alert- eyes big, ears twitching, nose right next to my ear.
She loses it when I lift the bowl up to my mouth to drink the milk. Juuuust as the bowl touches my lip, I hear “mreoow!”
Lower the bowl, all is quiet.
Lift it again...”mreoow!”
This pattern can continue indefinitely- usually. Normally we go through this a few times before I get bored and just drink the milk and put the bowl in the sink.
Today! She’d had enough.
I lifted the bowl to begin the funny mreoow game, and Izzy put her front paws on my shoulder. I lowered the bowl, and she put her back paws on my shoulder too. I took a second to inform her that she’s not a parrot...which was exactly how long it took her to get her front paws INSIDE the bowl and slosh it everywhere. I set the bowl down to get a towel and returned to find she had already finished off the milk and was contentedly licking her paws while giving me a look that clearly said, “I win, human.”
...I’m beginning to think that this story explains exactly why she made me wear the bird shoe.

And the frustrations begin again. Grr, I always say I'm going to quick work, but don't because of the kids. But right now, despite the fact that I love all my students, I just feel like giving up, because it feels like the admin don't really care about the kids or teachers. And honestly, I know most of the teachers are feeling really demoralized at this point. So many of the teachers have been out left and right. The other day I even heard a teacher tell a child that she know longer cares what he does, because he refuses to care, and she's given up on trying to get him to care, because you can't make someone care. And several parents have been making comments to the admin that they don't listen to them, and let the kids do whatever they want. They don't force the kids to be respectful. And as I said, the only reason I haven't left is because of my students. I don't want to be the number 8th teacher that leaves during the year.
