Nerd is a very over-used word these days. What passes for a nerd now is anyone who has a clean-cut look and wears clark kent glasses...

Meanwhile.... real nerds still struggle to get a girl to say "yes" to a date!! :p

Back in my day, a nerd was an anti-social bookworm. A geek was just a very awkward and annoying person.

A nerd can also be a geek, and vice versa...but they are/were two distinct traits.

And yes...they both have trouble finding dates...

A lot of nerds/geeks get a lot more excited about the stuff they're into than a girl, though.

Like... I'll talk to or go out with one (and they can be really adorable) but they don't know how to talk to someone... They never ask me what I like or what I'm into... because they're too busy telling me about what THEY like the entire time.

I can work with that for maybe one or two conversations and then it's just like... I'd rather be at home, talking to myself, because at least that way I get to talk about something I might be interested in.

(It also could be because I consider myself a nerd as well.)

Yes, well all the rejection from the opposite sex that nerds suffer through all evens out when they become the guy who lives in her dreamhouse and has the well-heeled bank account to go with it... :rolleyes:

I can assure you, awkward and annoying are appropriate words to describe me.

God has to put up with it 24/7. He is chuckling right now. Unlimited patience, I suppose. Lol

Not a nerd/geek blend that zeroturbulance mentioned.

And I'm a geek/geek. I probably have some nerd tendencies tho.

Lets ask the dudes... Whats the best match for a nerd/nerd (seoulsearch) and a geek/geek (myself)? Are they best with their own kind? Or are they adaptive to foreign mates? Lolol.
 
Nerds mesh well with nerds who share the same or similar interests. They are also compatible if both are allowed to follow their pursuits without a lot of interruptions.

Geeks...I guess you just have to find somebody who has a type of crazy that doesn't clash with yours.

We're forming "Edward" vs. "Jacob"-type divisions here...

I'm probably a hybrid. A Gerd or a Neek... So... someone along those lines...

All the brain power of a nerd, with all the social eccentricities of a geek. :D

I'm of a similar makeup. I've got brains in spades, but it's often overshadowed by the gigantic chip I have on my shoulder. As much as I try to play the role of a bitter old fart or misogynist, I honestly adore women. A woman would just have to know her place in the hierarchy of things that are important to me, and that's down the list from:

Books - leave me alone if I am reading
Hobbies - I am sculpting a Fremen Crysknife from Dune, so don't bug me
School - Even part time, I put in about 20 hours a week writing my dissertation
Documentaries - yes, I like you a lot, but can this wait until a commercial break?

Then on top of the nerdism, I've got all the social awkwardness and peculiarities of geekdom. I'd have to find someone who can handle a schizotypal/borderline personality, my intensely dark humor that I deliver dead-pan like Keanu Reeves, and my rather obsessive behavior about certain aspects of daily life.

In short...forever alone.

Where'd you find the sandworm tooth? And can you please teach other men this idea of "Don't bother me, I'm reading" ? Nothing worse (well okay maybe there are a few things worse)than someone who insists on trying to talk to you when you're trying to read.

As the years have passed, I've come to feel that way about myself as well, Yahweh.

I wouldn't kick love out if it came my way, but the more time that passes, the more unlikely it seems.

Years ago, I felt suicidal over that.

Now, it's just kind of become a dull acceptance. And God has blessed my life in a lot of other ways.

But, the thought still persists, like a paper cut through the heart that just won't go away.

Believe me, you're not the only one. So in an odd way, you're not alone, at all.
