I wish I lived near like a hiking trail or something because I would totally do just that for a day. Fresh air and sunshine and little to no technology and worrying about what's going on at home and in life sounds wonderful. Also sounds like a great way to get some exercise in....I need to do that. When my Dad died I was close to your age, 16. My world was out of sorts for a long time. Everything changed, the family dynamic, money situation was terrible, my Brother got into some trouble, it was so hard. I didn't turn to God because I really didn't know God then.
At your age Evie it's so hard to lose a parent. You're still a kid, I know technically you're an adult. 18 is a hard age to because technically the world wants us to be adults at that age. Honestly it just isn't possible. I guess for some it is, my Mom was married with a child by then. At that age you need your parents still and losing someone so quickly and unexpected is very hard. Just take your time and grieve. Your stories remind me or me when I was your age. My Brother's fiancee moved in with us and she was a few fries short of a happy meal and my Great Grandfather whom I was close to passed away about a year after my Dad did.
I hope you have found someone to reach out to in person. I hope maybe a woman who could be not only a help but a mentor. I was so blessed to have a teacher and my Mom. I pray that you have someone like that to help you through this. I will continue praying that someone who you can spend time with does that with you. However if you ever want to talk please PM me here or on FB. I'll even give you my phone number if you'd like.

You know the one thing I hate about this day? People who have a relationship always assume single people are miserable, and they act on that assumption by going out of their way to console the single people. Who said I'm miserable? Did my face look like I was unhappy? Why do you feel you must reassure me that there is someone out there for me? What if I don't want there to be anyone for me? What if I'm happy being single? What if the thought that there is someone out there for me gives me nightmares? (It doesn't, but what if it did?)
It's almost like they're so busy expecting we single people to be unhappy about being single that it's a disappointment if we're not miserable.
Personally I'm happy with life right now. I don't know from personal experience but I hear that life with someone is better than life alone. If being married is too much better than my current life I might need a sedative. I'm not against the idea of finding THE ONE for me, dating and eventually marrying her, but I'm not going to focus so much on what I lack that I ignore all I have to enjoy right now.
To my friends who are married or dating, I'm sorry if it disappoints you that I'm not miserable. But really, I don't need consolation. Really. I'm totally fine right now.

Yesterday a friend and I were talking. He needed help calming down because he was quite nervous about something. I suggested that he read the 23rd Psalm, since that always helps me calm down at least a little bit. I later was mentally going through part of it in my head, and it struck me: "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for Thou art with me". I then emailed this friend and pointed out that he was fearing evil when he was worrying because he was fearing a specific thing that MIGHT happen. It was "what if this person does this to be disloyal despite this person knowing that God doesn't want him or her to do so, and we've already discussed it, but I keep worrying". The thing is, it would be evil for the other person to knowingly disobey God, so obsessing about it is wrong. My friend thanked me and said it had really helped, and repeated his appreciation later. The funny thing is, multiple times that same day I had to keep reminding myself of the same thing, and I immediately felt peace come over me each time. Same way this morning. It's so easy to start worrying about what bad things MIGHT happen, whether you're in the shadow of death or just going through first-world problems.
It's also neat that even though I had read that Psalm dozens or hundreds of times, it still didn't hit me the same way until yesterday when I needed in that specific way.

That's kind of my attitude about it. For single people it's just another day, and that's okay. I do like being able to take advantage of the opportunity to appreciate and marvel over love in all of its forms, though. It's quite an amazing thing to think about.
Why? I mean why is it just another day for single people? One of my treasured memories of my Mother was Valentines Day. I would buy her the Hershey Kisses in the silver and red foil, and a flower, and a nice card telling her how much I loved her. Cook her favorite meal for dinner...........which was breakfast........Mom loved breakfast for dinner.
I was truly blessed to see the joy in her eyes and know that she really appreciated the special attention.....
Knowing there are always exceptions.........even if a person is single...........there has to be someone in their life they can enjoy the day with..............or, that may just be me.
You can do that any day, though, right? I'm not bitter about Valentine's Day by any means but in terms of the romantic love aura that surrounds Valentine's Day, that's not something that's going to apply to singles, so it's just another day for them in that respect. That's mainly what I mean. Or that's how I look at it anyway.
But most certainly I will be enjoying today with people that I love, and in that respect it can be a special day in its own right just as any day spent with loved ones can be

as funny as that is, it kind of reminds me of a couple friends and how they dance all the time.
