So I've pretty much just lounged around all day. I'm thinking that tonight I could go to youth group. I'll have to see. I'm tired, but I'm not feeling sick like I was this morning or last night. This morning I was still getting waves of nausea. I'd get tired when I'd try to do things. I'm actually able to do some things without feeling drained or getting a headache. I don't think I have a fever.

A friend of mind asked me if I could help him paint today. Little extra money so ok. Didn't know I would have new found respect for StillWaters. Isn't it StillWater- don't you paint for a living? Or is ti somebody else? I have to say, that's a profession that requires all physical and mental capabilities at 100% all the time. The job was at the 8th floor of a parking deck on some railings along the edge. So 100' up - oh, and you have to be a contortionist too. And have a death wish. Here's the way a job application for a painter should go:

honestly, I got bent in every position I didn't know I had. Everything hurts. All in the name of preservation of life because I didn't want to fall. My death would have been hard to explain to God. "WHY WERE YOU WORKING ON SUNDAY" He asks. Anyway my friend asks me if I can work next weekend and I tell him no, real busy next weekend and the one after that and forever with a N for never.

Not only is this a huge disservice to the children (failure in parenting), but it is a disservice to the parents as well. How can they really have a life after kids if they force their kids to Stay kids?

I've an uncle who was married for the first (&only) time in his mid 40's to a woman in her mid 30's. Neither of them had ever lived outside of their parents home prior to the marriage. BASIC things, like making breakfast, shopping for groceries, getting themselves up in the morning, and doing laundry were challenges for them.
Having my kids do age appropriate chores around the house teaches them life skills that they will need in college and beyond (and sometimes the skills they need to survive a weekend at their mom's!). As a father, I feel that part of my job is to teach my kids to not need me, because I will likely not outlive them.

Sorta reminds me of going off to college and meeting the kids whose maid did their laundry and meeting the kids who were so utterly sheltered as homeschoolers that they were incapable of making it outside of that protective bubble and partied themselves right out of school and into a rehab in a year or less. {Note: not knocking homeschooling in general, just knocking overly sheltering your kids.}

That's terrible! I learned to do these things early on (and many more), at least by my late-childhood/early teens. Doing laundry (correctly) was a little more challenging, but even that's not beyond young people. But then I'm reminded that there are adults who don't know how to do the dishes or prepare a very basic meal. It must be very debilitating.

Nothing quite like spending nearly four hours under your brothers car on the side of the road attempting to fix the broken shift linkage. Thanks to the cement and little rocks, I now feels like a got a back massage with 60 grit sandpaper.

Well, I was able to go to youth group tonight. I'm glad I went, everyone saw me and they were like, "YOU'RE ALIVE! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US EVER AGAIN."

I'm the only guitarist at church. Like...THE ONLY. Just me. Nobody else right now. Doesn't give me much flexibility to do much else. Can't even have a weekend where I can be sick and things don't go wrong. In some ways it's nice to be needed, but for them to be so completely dependent upon me because when I'm gone everything music related goes awry...yikes.

I was called 'pretty' by a 'G'-looking guy as he looked me up and down walking past me with his friends when I was at the bus stop tonight after church. WOW, compliments. Last week it was 'beautiful' from a drunk bum, this week from a G. Who knows what next week will hold!!
