It's very cold tonight... I thought turning the propane off would be a smart idea because I have done that at the end of April every year .. however another cold snap has come through with temps dropping again into the 30s .. I love the rustic living though, I never want to lose the skills of improvising or using critical thinking in survival situations .. so I heated up the stove lol.. Made some homeade Cajun rue and cooked pot of homeade cajun gumbo over my fire out outside .. I picture the many times I watched my great grandmother do it this way.. I love old family recipies .. Cast iron pots are the best and the warmth of the fire feels good ..there is a raccoon (not part of the menu just in case someone decides to make fun of Cajun ways
)
in the glow of the fire.. had a family of them four babies and a momma last year that would come onto the porch with me.. Guess they've never been around humans because they were very vocal and the babies would come right up if I sat down on the step.. I wonder if this one is an offering from that time.. thinking some fun thoughts of my nanny... Old Cajun woman who loved her romance novels late at night, made Clancy ions in the mornin , muscadine wine in the summer and canned ..she had a thick Cajun accent .. "oh Sha" she would say if I ever did something I shouldnt do and pinched me with her big toe just to be ornery .. I miss her ways .. I always knew when something interesting was going on or she was mad .. she would start talking in French .. her husband was a blind man and they suited one another .ales me smile to think of family times ..
Took a nap today.. I laughed when I woke up because it was dusk , I wasn't sure of it was getting dark or if the sun was just coming up.. I stood and nearly tripped. , forgetting how cold it was I forgot the many layers of clothing I had on.. a hat, camo
bibs (a little long" and wool socks .. In addition, a blanket wrapped around me..
it's been a good day
