My parents never did Santa with me as a Child. In my house, he's referred to as the Pagan god of Christmas. We cut him out as much as we can, for those reasons, among others. I really just don't like him. Your line of thinking makes me glad that we're not the only ones out there that see it kinda like that.

Hmm... Idk. I never thought about it like that. My parents flat out told me that Santa didn't exist lol. I'm glad they did it that way. If I would have thought he was real, then it would have broken my heart to find out that he wasn't (especially after watching Tim Allen's The Santa Clause as a kid).

I think you are on something. As for the true history of Santa, the book the Autobiography of Santa Claus does a good job of exploring that. But basically he is based off of an early bishop who served in Turkey (long before it was called Turkey) and was known for his charitable acts. The bishop was named Nicholas and was sainted by the catholic church after his death. Christmas was considered a Catholic holiday by the Puritans and some other Protestant christian groups and they refused to celebrate it since so much having fun and partying wasn't a fitting way to honor and show respect for God. So when these groups came to America they forbid celebrating Christmas. It was the Dutch settlers who told the average English colonist about sinterklass (dutch for saint nicholas) which became Anglicized as Santa Claus. So Santa is not the devil, he was actually a Christian man when he was alive. I will grant that most of the mythos around Santa is just that, stories we've created to embody the kind of person we all wish existed, unfailingly generous and kind with unlimited resources (hmm starting to sound a lot like God), but if it encourages and inspires us to be better and more Christlike people, is it really bad?

I don't understand how original sin can be seen as theological hearsay but yes, people should allow other views to be discussed, even if they don't agree with them.

Okay, I REALLY hate to ask. I don't want to spark a debate. If it does, blame me. I see the disputes for and against Original Sin all the time....but what the heck is it?? I mean, I agree it took one stupid move for the world to fall. But usually there's more to it than what's in the title (like Word of Faith doctrine....the phrase "Word of faith" is in the bible in Romans. I agreed with THAT Word of Faith. But I didn't even know what all Word of Faith had in it until I came on here).

The term Original Sin is referring to our sin nature that is in [originates in] us. That is because of the Fall of Mankind in Genesis.

And by the way, my disagreements were on some of the peripheral points that the teacher was making, not on Original Sin itself.

Oh, okay, so basically there were some small details you disagreed with, but when you said something, they pounced on you like a piece of meat in a pool of sharks? Yeeeaaah, that's happened to me before. Obviously not with original sin, but with other topics. Then I got out of that forum....and I never looked back.

I could not control myself, I poked ugly in the eye with my arrow. I wanted to stop, but it just kept blinking . I wanted it to stop
