Funny enough, I never had a thing for men in suits. The university I went to was in the heart of the city, so I passed by many business men during those times. I didn't get a very good vibe from them. There seemed to be this 'upper class/lower class' snobbery about them that used to grind me.
I think the thing for me is that I never see a self-conscious or crumpled fireman or police officer in uniform. It is as if the uniform itself brings out a truer calling out of the person wearing it. It is as if they walk and move gliding on purpose and on a higher calling for the sake of others. Their faces are set on serving and they're senses are alert to respond to those in need.
I've come to a point where I won't settle or give another glance to a man unless he truly knows himself. Who truly has their identity and understanding of who they are grounded in Christ.
Back in May, I went to a seminar for early childhood education and documentation, and that is where I met a man named Stephen. He was a confident and articulate speaker, who has travelled over the world and travelled around Australia being educated and educating others about education. He has gone on study tours overseas to see amazing places I would only dream of visiting, and not only did he deliver meaty content but he spoke passionately as well.
It was in May, upon meeting this man named Stephen (who I don't know if he is a Christian or not, but won't risk it), that I felt something that I thought was lost: that school girl crush feeling. Despite my darker complexion, my cheeks would burn red for him. At the end of the seminar, he offered to look over some documentation we did individually, and when he came to me I was last and at that point there was no one else was in the room as everyone had left.
I showed him how I captured the children's learning in a observation while putting my own poetic touch on it, and he looked me straight in the eye and he said, "Arlene, sometimes I wonder if people actually walk away and get what I'm talking about. I can clearly tell you now, you get it. You have captured the meaningfulness behind the learning." He then asked me to email him because he thought I had something and wanted to get me in touch with a Reggio Emilia Centre.
So I nearly fell off my chair.
And then the other week I go to a Reggio Emilia Workshop across town and lo and behold, Stephen was there with other people to give the presentation. During one of the breaks he waved at me and instantly recalled my name, and told me the details of the observation I did and how he remembered it from May. He then said to make sure I catch him after the presentation before I leave. After I walked away, I then turned to my director who was with me and I couldn't stop giggling like a school girl. I literally buried my face behind my lap top, laughing until I almost cried. My director then proceeded to poke fun at me, at this 25 year old woman relishing in her inner adolescent crush.
So after the presentation, I spoke to him and so did my director, and he said to my director in front of me, "You have a special one here." My director then talked about professional development stuff, and then he offered his card to her in case she wanted to contact him, and then he turned to me and he offered a card, but I said I probably have his contact saved in my email account because I emailed him once about the Reggio centre, and he gave me his card anyways "just in case" he said.
I haven't emailed him yet, I think I said I would update him on the new environment in our centre, but I think the whhhoolleee reason I went in to that lengthy story is because of his character and qualities. He was well educated, but passionate as well. He just spoke like he was confident in who he is and what he does yet humble enough to listen and lift up others. I guess what I'm trying to say is, "I GET THE WHOLE EDUCATED/SMART THING." It was undeniably attractive. I've always had a sincere soft spot for speakers who could deliver knowledge with a whole lot of heart. He is slightly lanky although well dressed, admittedly around 35 years of age, but I could just listen and learn from him for hours. There was so many qualities about him that gripped me with attraction.
I'll admit, the feelings I felt were shallow, love is so much more than that, la-la-la (I wouldn't press past the school girl crush, I don't see it as anything more than that), but I've come to realise how much I desire the qualities of confidence and passion in a man. Especially one who is fighting for a better and more meaningful educational system.

Relax, Tintin... no one will be with a guy just because he looks good... a shell is just a shell if there's nothing good in it!!
Don't get me wrong... I do believe that looks has to be part of the package... a guy who you only like to talk to and to have fun with is a just a friend and nothing more...
I'm not saying he needs to be dashing and perfectly fit as well... but he needs to be handsome and good looking to me... I need to want to kiss him and hug him and do everything alse with him... and on top of that, he needs to be my best friend, and the person I want to tell my day to, with whom I want to share my life with, and so on...
So... yeah... when we're talking about a man-woman relationship, the shell is a important part of the package... otherwise it's just friendship...

I went to see the new Hunger Games movie... and it was as boring as I expected it to be lol, especially the way Snow went from being in power to being captured... lame. The ending was also like.. really, that's it? -_- It had its moments, but the only one I really liked was the first one.
Someone always tries to tell me how better The Hunger Games is compared to the Divergent Series. Yeah right
Well dead-gum.... I was all excited about seeing this movie this weekend... And you kinda just busted my bubble and now I'm not sure I wanna watch it... Shame on you!
