So I got up at 1:45am and so I couldn't get back to sleep who cares I'm running on chocolate and I'm good to go I'll be just fine right-a-roony fine and dandy...
Roh, brother. I believe something in your first sentence is lost in translation. The second part makes perfect sense though.
What this article leaves out is the Japanese doctrine by 1944 of Bushido or the value of victory at all cost including suicide. Death was embraced as value with the famed Kamikaze attacks and especially the Banzai attacks in China and the Battle of Saipan, or the acts of international war crimes with treatment of prisoners of war of millions in China often referred to as the Asian Holocaust.
And of course the decision to end the war by using an atomic bomb to destroy two cities in Japan had secondary effects elsewhere. It's easy to second guess on those effects. And of course the United States did things for the benefit of the United States, but Truman's main motive was to end the war as quickly (and as cheaply) as possible with the least amount of U.S. casualty. The Japanese by 1944 had lost nearly all their conquered territory and the US understood their capacity to "fight until death". The war at that point would have taken place in the Island of Japan and would have resulted in huge loses for both sides. A "secondary" effect (of the atomic bombings) was to bring peace to the U.S., Japan, China, and the entire south Pacific - also effects left out of the essay.
As I have repeatedly said, war is NOT just, so the "end justifies the means" is not valid in war. It was an objective to create a greater good by democratically elected leaders of a citizenry largely influenced by Judeao/Christian values.
I'm fine, thank youOr should I say, "Arigato Gozaimasu!!!"
I'm here at Sakai City in Osaka, Japan with my mom, brother, sister-in-law, and their kids (2 nieces and a nephew). We're staying at my mom's place. She's been living and working here for 30 years now. We've visited here frequently, when there's a cheap flight available. I've been here 5x already, and I love it hereit's our first time to visit here during winter time, and the first time we celebrated Christmas and New Year's here (Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!!!
). It's crazy cold right now (5 degrees Celsius now), compared to what we have in the Philippines (usually 27-30 degrees Celsius. Currently 23 degrees). But the sights, the food, the cleanliness of the environment, the technological advancements, discipline and helpfulness of Japanese folk is simply WOW
I've always been a great admirer of the Japanese culture and the beauty and artistry in this country. Plus, they create really useful and innovative things. Whenever we visit here, there is always something awesome and impressive to see and experience
Hmm....maybe I should've posted this in that other thread???
I just finished washing the dishes here (a chore I'm actually quite fond of doing), after my mom made a sumptuous meal for us (Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba). Will be needing to sleep of the night real soon, because tomorrow will be another day of walking around and waiting in line at the amusement park (Universal Studios Japan). We'll be heading back to our country on the 11th, so we better make the most out of the rest of our stay, which has been such a blast (3 weeks in all). I praise and thank Father GOD for letting me see so much beauty in HIS creation, for teaching me to appreciate these unique Japanese people even more, and for giving me and my folks the opportunity to bond as a family
How about you??? Are you alright, CC people??? "Minna-San, genki desho ka?"
There were secondary effects of America utilizing the atomic bomb leading to peace, like you rightly said. However, was it long term? It put into action things that should be of concern to all of us.
* It led to an arms race and the Cold War, with many countries racing to make themselves capable of nuclear attack.
* Not only the "big" countries were drawn into this, but also tiny, unstable countries.
Big Google is watching UGoogle auto complete / suggestions (the one based on nr of general google searches rather than your own history) is creepy ....
