Spirit not broken - a mental health poem.
Spirit not broken but my brain damaged
By two nervous breakdowns and psychosis
Sectioning spared, my loving wife cared
A rock in the flood of manic crisis
Delusional thinking and deep panic
Melleraril calmed, slowly controlled
To Christ did I cling whilst clearly manic
Exaggeration of ME manifold
My very being under great attack
Personality, confidence, respect,
swathes of memory did all come back
Years passed with a positive effect
Medication became daily ritual
Drug being changed to risperidone
Antipsychotic and habitual
Kept the "music" sweet and in the right tone
Career destroyed, a new beginning
Projects aplenty to pursue in life
Applied chemistry, cheffing, church and gardening
Many simple, fun holidays with wife
All therapeutic I have well come back
"Opportunity knocks" at my front door
No longer fearful of being in lack
My requiem a well conducted score
