You and I have gone over the account in John numerous times. And for some reason you are unable to see what Jesus is actually saying. And that is, the apostles know the Holy Spirit because He is
currently dwelling with them. And
will actually be inside of them at a later date.
"And I will pray the Father, and
he shall give you another Comforter, that he may
abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but
ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and
shall be in you." John 14:16-17
To "abide" is to live or remain in something, much like a branch stays connected to the vine for life. It implies a permanent, ongoing presence rather than a temporary visit.
