July, which was named after Julius Caesar, used to be called Quintilis, which literally means "fifth" in Latin, because it was the fifth month until the Romans changed the calendar.

SEPTember used to be the 7th month, as the the prefix "sept" has to do with the number 7 as in septuplets.
OCTober used to be the 8th month, as the prefix "oct" has to do with the number 8 as in octopus or octagon.
NOVember used to be the 9th month, as the prefix "nov" has to do with the number 9 as in novena.
DECember used to be the 10th month, as the prefix "dec" has to do with the number 10 as in decade, decimal, or the Decalogue (10 Commandments)
Furthermore, February used to be the 12th month, and this is why leap year occurs at the end of February.
Had the calendar not been changed, the new year would begin in the Spring, and not about a week and a half into Winter as it presently does.
There are SATANIC reasons why the calendar was changed, even though people normally blow a gasket when I mention the following one.
The ancient Romans were into gematria or numerology.
Satan's name first appears in the underlying Hebrew of the Old Testament. In Hebrew, each letter of the alphabet has a corresponding numeric value attached to it. Satan's name in Hebrew consists of three consonants which have the numeric values of 300, 50, and 9. With such being the case, the numeric value of Satan's name is 359.
Well, what is the 359th day on our current greatly-altered calendar?
365 = December 31st
364 = December 30th
363 = December 29th
362 = December 28th
361 = December 27th
360 = December 26th
359 = December 25th or Christmas (Christ Mass) day.
This isn't a coincidence.
Everything in scripture indicates a Springtime birth for Jesus.
Anyhow, God's calendar is the Hebrew calendar, which is a lunar calendar, unlike our Romanized solar calendar, and the new year does begin in the Spring.

the Hebrew new year, Rosh Hashana is around the time of the autumnal equinox, isn't it?
it makes a certain sense that the year should begin with the dark times of the fall & winter months, as the evening is the beginning of a new day, and the sunrise the center of it.

Actually, the Hebrew new year begins in the Spring, on Nisan 1, the same month in which the feast of Passover takes place.
Exodus chapter 12
[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
[2] This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
[3] Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
[4] And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
[5] Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
[6] And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

He mentions in it how people mistakenly believe that Rosh Hashana is the beginning of the new year.

The Jewish feasts show God's prophetic timeline.
The Springtime feasts pertain to things that Christ would/did accomplish at his first coming.
Christ was crucified on the Feast of Passover, raised from the dead on the Feast of Firstfruits, and the Holy Spirit was poured out 50 days later on the Feast of Pentecost.
The first Fall-time feast is the Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), and it's no coincidence that Christ's second coming is heralded with a trumpet blast throughout scripture.
In this sense, it is the beginning of a new year because things will drastically change when Christ returns.

Although I'm a very sober-minded Christian, I also have a sense of humor that often gets me in trouble. Normally, my humor is self-depreciating in style (that's safe), but sometimes I just say stupid things simply for the sake of humor and not to actually offend anyone else.
Anyhow, I know that you don't know me, so I want to apologize to you in case my comment came across in the wrong manner.

Just in case you are troubled...I have been both a Four Star Chef and a Construction worker... my friends in both careers have said something much worse and I thought it was funny too.
But really, relax...I don't have eggshell feelings.... because my feelings all died a long time ago and sit in a coffin made for them on the mantle over the fireplace. It's a nice coffin...it looks really fancy and everything.
It sits right next to the box that holds all my dreams and ambitions that have left on vacation and never returned. (I had to hire a "snatch team" to bring them back) and now they sit all tied up in their box. That box looks like a steamer trunk...one that people used to use for hauling lots of stuff around the world.
I used to work with a Jewish Rabbi. He had written several papers on the Leverite Calendar. I could argue with him over anything and nobody would hold it against the other on a personal level.
But he was saying that according to what he knew about Jesus and the calendar... Jesus was likely born on Christmas of 1 AD or BC and Crucified or Risen on April 1 or 3 of the year 33 AD. (Give or take is because of the discrepancy in the Jewish Calendar that is a huge can of worms to open)
And they accidentally almost opened it a few years back.
(When the Government changed the calendar and made Saturday become labeled as Sunday has become a huge sticky wicket for both SDA and the Jews)

Hey, John.
I'm thinking that this thread was originally started as a sort of "safe zone" or as a place where members could come to escape the types of doctrinal disputes which regularly transpire in the BDF.
With such a belief in mind, and out of respect for others, I'm not going to do anything that might disrupt that type of atmosphere.
I mentioned certain things here in order to hopefully answer a question that posthuman had asked, and I've also offered a link to a video which further explains some of the points that I mentioned. If anyone is interested in viewing the same, then they can certainly do so.
Anyhow, I'm not offended in the least by opposing views, and I'm perfectly willing to discuss the same with anybody, but simply not here on this thread for the reasons I've already mentioned.
Hopefully, you understand.

I was thinking about Paul's statement about the letter of the Law kills but the Spirit brings life.
You know from when Moses came down from the mountain and about 3,000 Israelites died and then in Acts Peter preaches and about 3,000 people got saved...
And I was hypothesizing that maybe it isn't a stretch for God to have those who hyperventilate over precise Saturday worship are actually doing it on the wrong day but the rest of us are doing it properly in spirit and in truth...

And I do appreciate not debating the subject.
It's just a matter of eating meat or special days...not worth the air used to argue about.

Believe me, you didn't come across as being the least bit argumentative.
Personally, I like to discuss things, but it's just that I don't think that this particular thread was created for that purpose, so I don't want to ruin anybody else's experience here.
Besides, I'm really not too sure that I'm going to be sticking around here much longer.
Life is short, and after close to 600 posts here, I honestly doubt that I've made any eternal impact upon anybody with my own participation here. I did get the opportunity to witness to one member on this forum privately, and I'm truly thankful for that. Otherwise, it's basically just a lot of bickering going on in the forums, and I just don't see the eternal value in any of that.
I also just started talking again to my ex-girlfriend, and she and I always spent tremendous amounts of time together in God's word. I'm just thinking that my time would be much better spent studying God's word with her than in arguing with people here (I'm NOT referring to you in the least).
I was actually going to deactivate my account earlier today, but a longtime friend of mine just joined the forum, so I might stick around for a bit.
Whatever I decide to do, it's been nice talking to all of you.
