I'm hoping for an early out, not an extension. :o It amazes how when someone retired from the Post Office where I work when I first started, the retiree would come in on their last day with family members and give a teary-eyed speech goodbye and a union rep would present them with a gold watch, then there would be cake and punch in the break room. NOW, whenever someone retires, they just leave, and most of the time they call in sick their last day or two and barely even say goodbye to anyone. :eek:

My retirement count down was in the 4 year range when they came in took me to a room and told me I was being laid off from a job I had for 25 years. Then instead of a retirement party they escorted me out of the building not letting me pack up my stuff. Someone else did that for me I guess that was their parting gift to me. They did give me a settlement as long as I promised not to come back on the company with a lawyer etc....

As I was leaving one of the girls I worked with was crying for me and I said oh honey you need to be crying for yourself I'm happy to be going you still have to work here. I was happy too. A tad shocked by the way they had me leave with an escort and all but these are the things that happen when you work in a money business - I'd seen it happen before. Hurts though when it is happening to you. But I really was happy to be leaving. Got to retire 4 years earlier than planned but have survived so far. Thank God for that everyday.

That sounds like some kind of torture. :eek: THe only thing we had to do was the "president's physical fitness test" which was like 20 pushups, as many pullups as you can do and as many situps you can do in 2 minutes (i think). At the end they gave us this diploma-like thing that said we did the test and it had the president's signature and arnold schwarzennegger's signature too because he was the president's national fitness education head or something like that. He was one of the president's cabinet members.
