GandalfTheWhite....if you love banjo,...try to hear the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet sometime! They are solo good! Just down home, feel good, praising the Lord bluegrass gospel. I love when Grampa Jones sings " When I Get To The End of the Way"....love them old songs!

And no, that stuff at the store is NOT real sourdough. Even at the health food stores, they make it with packaged yeast. Real sourdough takes too long to be commercially viable.

My wife grew up on a farm. They had buckwheat cakes for breakfast every morning along with fresh, homemade butter. The buckwheat cakes were made from a starter that was over 50 years old. What they did was save some of the batter from the breakfast and that evening add some buckwheat flour, baking soda and water and let it work overnight. The next morning buckwheat cakes were made from the batter again. This went on for over 50 years. The buckwheat cakes were indescribable. Alas, when her folks finally passed away, we could not keep the batter (Days of Unleavened Bread) and that starter finally went by the wayside.

If you have never had sourdough buckwheat cakes like this, you have never lived.
