Do you have any? Whether you believe them or not, have you heard of some passed down?

A close friend of mind said he witnessed a man clearing a fence row and was bitten by a copperhead on the wrist. The man went to some neighbors and asked if they had some garlic. They did and he chewed up some and swallowed it. And he chewed up some more and rubbed it on the bite. The next day he was back to work without any problem.

These home remedies are important because many live quite a long way from a doctor or hospital. Thus any immediate action would be helpful.

I believe it’s possible to have a dry bite. Where snakes bite but don’t inject
venom.

It’s highly unlikely chewing garlic, (which would take 20-30 mins minimum)
to start to be digested. Or rubbing it into a wound (as it would have difficulty
reaching the blood stream that way). Would prevent venom from working.

Anything directly injected into the blood stream like venom would take
anything from half a minute to a few minutes depending where bitten,
to start having an effect.

you're vey rite Miri -
if a serpent has recently bitten and is digesting, then it would just be a normal reaction for them to bite in self defence,
without their venom...

when one lives where hub and I do, it will pay to 'shake-out your outside shoes before you put them on...:):),,
for many reasons other than just snakes...

interesting... thinking garlic is supposed to work on vampires...

5 Natural Treatments to Relieve Symptoms of Snake Bites (Dr Draxe)
1. Lavender Essential Oil. Feeling stress and anxiety is universal after a snake bite. Remaining calm, and still is essential, particularly when bitten by a venomous snake as an increased heart rate can cause the toxins to spread more quickly. Use a few drops of lavender essential oil or another essential oil for anxiety behind the ears, or just sniff directly out of the bottle to speed relief.

2. Tea Tree Oil. After a bite, cleaning the area thoroughly is important. Using a natural antibacterial cleanser, specifically one that contains tea tree oil, can be helpful. Wrap with a clean dry bandage; do not wrap too tightly. Follow directions if 911 instruct you not to cleanse the area, particularly after a rattlesnake, copperhead, coral snake or water moccasin bite. (24)

3. Echinacea. Echinacea is a powerful immune system booster, pain reliever and anti-inflammatory. It fights infections and is useful in wound healing. Research shows that Echinacea purpura root extract reduces regulatory T cell numbers and function, enhancing immune system function. If you’ve been treated for a venomous snake bite, talk to your doctor before taking an echinacea supplement as it may interact with prescribed medications. Follow the recommended guidelines for dosing and only purchase high-quality echinacea supplements. (25)

4. Coconut Oil. It fights bacteria, viruses, and parasites and coconut oil has been shown to aid in the healing of wounds. Apply a small amount of coconut oil to the wound and wrap with a bandage to speed healing. A study published in the journal Skin Pharmacology and Physiology found that when applied topically, virgin coconut oil-treated wounds healed much faster than the two other control groups. (26)

5. Turmeric. After a trauma where you absorb a toxin — like a snake bite — you may feel inflammation, pain and continuing adverse effects for days, weeks or even months. Taking a high-quality turmeric supplement and adding turmeric to your diet can help ease the pain and reduce inflammation. However, if the bite was from a venomous snake, check with your doctor prior to taking it as some types of snake venom affect blood coagulation. (27), (28)

I have heard of the dry bites. And that is a possibility. All I know is that the man did come back to work the next day with no problem. And he did use the garlic as said. Of course I have no way to prove either way that it was a dry bite or that the garlic had an affect on the bite.

But it goes in my record of something you might do.

It has been reported that the rattlesnakes venom is changing to a neurotoxin like the coral and cobra.

Just the other day on the news a different breed of rattlesnake was caught, It was completely black.

In the old Foxfire books, they have a home remedy they call 'rattlesnake weed'. Of course this comes from the Appalachian mountain folk so it may be only found there.

But, they say their way of finding this home remedy was to get the rattlesnake so agitated that he would bite himself. Then you follow him when he leaves and see what plant he goes to eat to counteract the poison.

They also say whiskey helps the bite, but then they say that about every ailment.

The down home shine. They say it’s so potent that if a snake bites a person who has been drinking a fair share of it, then it’s the snake that goes down.

And I believe that to be so.

Quantrill, if I remember well, a long long time, I read about US Army using stun gun to delay the effect of a snake bite. Supposedly that would buy them some time to take the person to proper aid.
In the article I think they mentioned that low amperage (as from a coil) could do a similar effect, but do not recall the details.

Just note that I read that way back, and I had no way to validate the source nor the contents. You may want to check to see if there is info on that.

Essential oils to the bite area. Tea tree was used as an antibacterial. We also used cinnamon and basil to fight the toxins. In addition a cannabis root balm was used as a carrier oil with helichrysum to all the swollen areas. After having what looked like, an elephant foot, with small little toes, by using these oils, within a few hours, the foot looked more like a sprained ankle. Because he was bitten about 15 hours before he could get to the hospital, he received no antivenom, but only got antibiotics. Our friend recovered fully within two weeks even though he basically got no treatment for nearly 40 hours and had to cut his jeans off his leg due to excessive swelling, before we could get to him. He also got some of the toxins removed with acupuncture a few days after oil treatments began. When he recovered, he had no long term effects from his copperhead bite he received at the Big South Fork.
All glory to God for giving us oils and herbs for healing.

What am I doing reading this before sleep... that's like when I've seen first time in the US roaches that FLY TO YOU... good grief, where I'm from they know to stay on the ground... It's top notch nightmare material. I have issues accepting that this is all God's creatures and that He gives them life and moves them. How about just move cats in my direction, God.

Injectable vitamin C is supposed to be good for snake bites also. You're limited in the amount you can absorb orally.

At least it would stop you getting scurvy, assuming you survived the snake bite.
